[Tripp Gwyn Subject: Concert Ettiquette (Sorry to drag this out) Okay, I've been thinking about this a lot, and I'm trying to figure out my opinion on this matter, as well as what Tori most likely thinks. The first time I listened to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on the HJ single, I got chills. Obviously Tori was very on that night, but I also think that the energy that comes from that track has a lot to do with the cheering crowd. I could do without the "TOTO!" bit, but it almost added to the song to hear people yelling out suggestions before she (and this is what I think the important part is) *actually started singing*. I attended the Stuttgart, Germany concert last winter, and that audience was *so* dead, there was nothing to the show. To be honest, Tori didn't give a very a good performance, and neither did the audience ("it's how you think - you have to keep the wheel moving..."). So I guess what it comes down to is basic common sense. I'm all for applause and maybe a shout here and there in between songs or before an encore, but don't sing, clap, hum, dance, whistle, yell, stand, talk or wave your lighter in the air while she's singing. Not too tough. Not that I should necessary have the last word on this subject, but maybe we could move on to a different topic now? Personally, I'm interested to know where you were and what you were doing when you heard Tori for the fist time. I remember my "first" very vividly, and am guess a lot of you do, too. In an interview I read, Tori said that she wanted to have > a baby sometime... During the promo tour for UtP (I suppose in 1994), Tori did a long interview and some live songs on BBC Radio 1. (In fact, it was the first time I heard her speak). Anyway, she discussed at some length about how she wanted and hoped for a child within the next 12 months. I found it really sad that that never panned out the way she'd hoped. I would say it's something Tori has wanted ever since, and you're right... the time is certainly ripe for it. I truly hope it works out however she wants. > Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, IF Tori starts to think about > her future, about maybe starting a little family and everything... > would that mean the end of her career? Personally, I would say Tori is a real "mom" type. How? Well, in terms of the value she seems to place on relationship with parents/grandparents. Also, we know she loves to "mother" people, like roasting chicken for Trent and whatnot. So I would think that she would want to dedicate at least a few years to her children. They would always be integral to her life, and that doesn't necessarily preclude growing up on the road. It just means she wouldn't be doing 150 gigs a year. I would not put her in the same box with Madonna, I think she is much more like Annie Lennox. Annie has a family, and they are her life. She paused her career for them (doing an album when the kids got older), even though she could be immensely successful. I have a lot of respect for that. So yeah, I think it could well be possible that this is the last tour we get for a while. Who knows, she could give birth to a child prodigy (or 5). Uggh, I just had an image of The Judds on piano. Hi.=20 I want to say two things. I'm sorry about the "flame him!!" post, I was told that it's not nice to say things like that and now I've learnt my lesson, and I hope all the people who were bothered by it will forgive me please.=20 I really don't want you guys to be angry at me, because I'd die if I couldn't share what I just find out. There is a song which is dedicated to Tori. It's from a chilean group called "La Rue Morgue", the song is called "Blues a dos mujeres" or "Blues for 2 women". The other woman is called Maga, but I don't know anybody of that name. I just wrote the parts that had to do with Tori. I'm not very good at translating, so if Laura wants to make any corrections, they're very welcome. It says: "Tori, I discovered you "sin querer" (like, "not on purpose"), over my piano your glance was sliding, your red hair awakened, your subtle woman's lips... they are women who leave something in the air, something that makes you drunk. They are women who leave their marks wherever they go, marks that make us live... I carry you in my walkman, I trap you in my book, I don't think I can forget them".=20 It's not just me saying it's her in the song, but the band said so in an interview. That's all. Meanwhile, older fans of Tori might only find a "new" artist because perhaps Tori's more "known" now than she was in LE days, and for the most part older fans are as likely to have found Tori earlier as to have first discovered her music now. - --abbe (who, by the way, not all *that* old herself, but hit "musical maturity" a year or so too late to see the LE tour. *snif*) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 21:49:45 EST From: ChinaDust@aol.com Subject: What DID Tori call her grandfather, anyway?
