I just found a review of "Boys For Pele" at the Salon Magazine www.salonmagazine.com ) website. This is the link: http://www.salonmagazine.com/05/reviews/tori.html The review is not very positive , but in the end, it's interesting just to read. Besides from the text (and BTW, this review has yet another comparison to Kate Bush), what really caught my attention is that there's also a very interesting picture I had not seen before, and by the expression in Tori's face, and by the position of her hand inside her jeans, it just gives you the idea that she's masturbating. No, It's not my dirty mind ;) , just go see for yourself! Little Amsterdam "sounds an awful lot like" Cornflake Girl... uh-huh, okay, right. Whatever. Then again, how intelligent can the reviewer be if she automatically dumps both Blood Roses and Father Lucifer into the category of "ballads"?!?! Wow... this is rather a way out there review, don't you think? I mean, I've heard people say that Tori can be hard to understand/decipher, but this woman just, well, all but said that Tori's a Kate Bush-wannabe who can't write for shit. Silly woman. Yup, those are the UtP demos. For more information about Tori Stories, go to the Tori-boot discography at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/alley/4370/tabdnew.html It has lots of information on all known Tori bootlegs, including setlists and sound quality, plus cross-references to other boots that have the same show. My curiosity is all up and in a tither now to really try to get at this Kate and to see if she will SPEAK to me. I had no idea that I had rehashed an old debate...sorry if I caused some eyerolling...anyway, I got my friend to *really* listen to tori and he admits that the similarities are fewer and farther between than he once thought. He also admits that he was confusing tori and ani defranco somewhere along the line...now that is an odd one, huh! But thanks to the argument, we both are better informed. *ALSO* does anyone have the program number for the public radio broacast that tori was on? The last time I asked, someone gave me the wrong number and I ended up with some farmer talking about UFOs or something weird...no tori. I asked the tori quote woman, cuz she used quotes from the broacast for her list, but she never wrote me back. daisy melanie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Dec 1997 12:27:07 -0600 From: "Ellis, Melanie S" Subject: songs Hey, I have a question: would anyone be willing to make copies of certain songs for me, if I reciprocate in kind? Of course, not all CD-ROMs like it. My CD-ROM drive won't play it, it thinks that there's only audio on the disc. Pop it into your computer {or a friend's, or the schools 8) } and see it. If my memory serves, it's Tori's performance on VH-1's Crossroads of "I'm on Fire". :) /nad *************************************************************************** * Nadyne Mielke, CS majour, Southern Tech, Marietta, GA * * * * "I regret to say that we of the FBI are powerless to act in cases of * * oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate * * commerce. I was listening to a demo version of "China" which is on the Little Earthquakes -Demos and Outtakes CD today and noticed something really weird. At the end of the song, like the last 20 seconds or so, you can hear birds and insects and the sounds of nature in the background. It sounds groovy, though... So it seems like the song was once more of an earthy song, whereas on the album it became more of a dramatic ballad with the backing vocals and strings and all... j'ason ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Dec 1997 14:50:57 -0700 From: "Raven" Subject: Re: Tori mastrbating... >Anyway, does anyone know where this picture's from? In the 'Images and Insights' book, that picture is there. In the pic on that AWFUL review, they don't show the background. She is actually standing in a burning field and there is a big flame behind her. This IS from the BfP photo shoot. Here's what I get out of it: The 'Insight' on this page of the book is as follows: "You never can believe what you're up to when you're up to it of course" I feel like she thinks that the burning field deal, is for that male farmer. Ya know, the guy in the overalls with the straw hanging from his mouth. Yea, he pours the gasoline from the jug and speeds off in his tractor to do some plowing. The fire represents the fire of the album to me. This album is so controversial compared to UtP or LE. This burning of the field is not the conventional woman's job. But she has burned it to the ground, along with all the memories (maybe of Eric.... ??) and she's releasing the firey demon girl inside. (I know what you're thinking... "Who the hell is this guy and what the hell is he getting at?!") Well, that look of satisfaction is caused by the happiness of the strange thing she's done, not just the field, but the album. Her hand being down her pants kinda reminds me of Al Bundy. (The Gross guy on the couch for those of you who don't watch the idiot box) It's like she's doing "manly" things, like scratching herself and doing field work. I think what I'm getting at is that she's happy and content with performing from the other side of the spectrum of female performers. Golly, I hope that made since, if not just imagine hitting me with a large steel pan or something... Have a good one! In Tori, Mr. Ashley Blaize :) BTW, check out my page and I would like to hear other insights on this! :) === "Hold on to nothing as fast as you can" - Tori Amos Tea With the Waitress - http://www.comsource.net/~nacho/Tori_Amos/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "why is it that birds fly high in the sky, proud of their ability, yet they rest in the branches of the depressing weeping willow?" - Mackenzie Arnold _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
