There is always something going on like a speech or a musical performance or something. Anyhoo, I'm going to play in chapel (the piano) and I want to play Precious Things. I've changed some of the words to fit my gender and my beliefs (if some of you are wondering, I didn't change the "so you can make me cum" part). I have completely figured out the songs on LE and I'm working on UTP. I've got most of BfP too, FYI. I'm also pretty good at imitating Tori in the way she sits and I really think that supporting yourself with your leg really holds your diaphragm well and helps you generate power behing those long strings. I really feel the difference in my playing, even though people think I'm doing something nasty to the piano bench. But, to get to the heart of the matter (finally), does anyone have any pointers on what I can do or any of the sheet music to check my notes??? I can't afford the expensive sheet music (LE, UTP, BfP, B-Sides) so I had to figure out the albums myself which does make me proud since they're pretty straight on, but also makes me wonder what I'm missing. But I'd appreciate any advice, stories on how to make the performance better, what she does in concert. I really want to make this good so it doesn't come off half-assed or like elevator music--you know how she feels about elevator music... Hola amigos! I wanted to share several things with you... First of all, Perry Thompson from Rainy Day Records (rainy@conch.net), sent this in an e-mail: "We just got two very cool colour photos of Tori. Each one is double-matted and ready to frame and both are signed by Tori herself! They are $65 each. Just thought I'd mention this. If you're not interested you might pass this on to a friend." So you are "a friend", and thought you might be interested. NON-TORI:Yesterday I went out and bought myself two CD's...Meredith Brooks-blurring the edges, and a compilation CD, "Strong Enough-the one and only woman album" The first is OK...I think it takes a little getting used to, I found it too commercial. The second, well, in my opinion, is missing several voices to be considered (including Ms. Amos) "the one and only", but it has a pretty good selection... In Bogota, Colombia (South America), we've had a Tower Records for the past month. So, finally I can ask for a Fiona, or Sarah CD, without getting these "what?" looks... Anyway, I saw a Tori Interview Disc&Fully Illustrated Book, by Mick St. Michael yesterday. Anyone interested? I have one already, but if anyone is interested (I guess mostly fellow latinos...), I could buy it and ship it. Let me know... un beso toriano, Cynthia ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Oct 1997 02:18:53 GMT From: aliciau@ibm.net Subject: Re: Siren Eileen wrote: >um, and this may be a stupid question, but can someone refresh me on how to >find at least the cd that "siren" is on? it is a promotional, right? > Dear Eileen, I asked in a music store about this album, and they said that if it is a promotional, you can get it in Atlantic Records only. That's what they told me, but somebody (whose name appears in Michael Whitehead's page) said he'd found it in a record store for 50 cents. If I were you I'd visit the most important record stores in my area (in fact, that's what I'll do) and see if one has a copy of it you can buy, although I don't think we'll be very lucky. bye, Alicia "tears on my pillow, of course they're not mine..." When I first read about this song, I immediately imagined a mermaid, because in spanish, mermaid is "sirena" (which also means that loud signal). So my friend told me that siren meant this signal. And I looked it up in the dictionary too, and I saw the "sea nymph" part too (I think we have the same dictionary, I used Compton's encyclopedia, and you?). Anyways, I think it's real meaning is definition b.), but I think we won't know until we've read the book/seen the movie/read the (real) lyrics or at least listened to the whole song. bye, Alicia Rain wrote: >hullo again my fellow e*w*f* this may or may not be applicable to the >song siren but i thought some of you might be interested to know that >besides siren being a loud, wailing warning signal, siren is also > >a.) a sea nymph represented as part bird, part woman who lures sailors to >their death on rocky coasts by their seductive singing > >~and~ > >b.) a woman who uses her sexual attractiveness/seductiveness to entice >or allure men > >i think these definitions (knowing tori) may have more to do with the >song or the song's subject than the first...just my opinion. >~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~rain~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > "tears on my pillow, of course they're not mine..." It sounds kind of like an invitation to me, like Tori wants to warm up this guy who's been frozen by a girl she believes she can be better than. And when she says "you know that apple green ice cream can melt in your hands", I thought of it as her saying the other girl is unexperienced, superficial (green), and won't stick around in the relationship for long (she's going to melt away as soon as he tries to get close to her). I think Tori's saying that she can't 'melt' like that, if she's given a chance she'll be the long lasting companion that he needs. That's just my opinion...thoughts?
