I'll say that when you hear Tori do Little Earthquakes in concert it sounds almost the same as on disc. One of the first thoughts I had was how good her voice sounds live. That leads me to believe most tracks are not using any "expansion" techniques to artificially richen her vocal sound. I think that multitracking of subtle amounts of deepness is pretty nice though. The initial response to this question that crossed my mind was, "Of *course* someone knows where Tori lives. Obviously *she* knows, her family knows, her friends know--those who need to know, know. But I did not think very seriously about posting such an answer, as some people would likely get pissed, and I would come off as being even more of a wag than I already do. :-) Anyhow, back to the discussion as continued by Karen, Goddess of the Groove. (Who I don't really know, but whose name I love.) I never saw anything to indicate that the Caldwells had anything to do with Tori's fan mail. Tom Richards of the Florida-based fan club Upside Down was doing that, from what I've heard and recall from posts he made some time ago on RDT. Caldwells = fanzine, Tom Richards = fan club. I know this is kinda confusing, especially since Upside Down is or was *also* a fanzine. (I have no idea whether they will publish anything again, and for that matter, it having been nearly a year since the most recent version of the RDT fanzine came out, and with the Caldwells saying they've been swamped generally with their fanzine-related as well as their personal life-related things--well, I'll believe they are gonna get another issue of the RDT fanzine out when I'm holding one in my hands.) And as for Tori's dad and his relationship to any of her professional business is concerned, he is indeed in charge of her publishing rights. That's one reason he retired from the clergy when he did, so he could devote more time and attention to that. He's relatively enfeebled these days--I haven't seen him since last October but at all of the shows where I saw him last year he was walking laboredly with a cane--and I'm sure it's all he can do to keep up with his responsibilities with Tori's publishing. I have incredible admiration for him and for all he's done for Tori's life and career, but half a dozen or more strokes have visibly taken their toll, and one must wonder how much longer he'll be able to continue in his current position with her publishing. The other thing I'll comment about in the this thread is that the last time I heard, Tori was getting around ONE THOUSAND pieces of fan mail PER WEEK. There's no way in hell she could ever begin to read all that. I think most Tori folk would be shocked at how little time and attention she is able to devote to *anything* in terms of her career which doesn't directly relate to her cycle of compose-->record-->promote-->tour. Almost none, from what I've seen. And BTW, it's been standard practice for decades for fan clubs to handle fan mail. If it was left to the record companies it would all probably end up in the dump. And if no one else lists the people who do background vocals who are listed in the Little Earthquakes CD booklet, I'll do that when I get home. (I know who they are, I just would want to post exactly how they are listed in the booklet--including the spelling error. *Surely* they are listed in everyone else's copy. How can this *possibly* be a point of confusion? Very odd.) This *would* be the first day in months when I didn't bring LE in to work with me. I brought the Talula single with Frog On My Toe, the Boulder and Pittsburgh 5/30/96 shows on CD, Gil Evans & 10, The Beatles Past Masters - -- Volume One, Lydia Lunch 13.13, Bernard Herrmann's soundtrack to Citizen Kane, and the double CD album by X with their Los Angeles and Wild Gift albums on it. :-) I'll go back to work, now. :-) (Single *me* out by name, will ya'?) In response to all the talk about Tori and whether or not she attracts the male sphere of our populous . . . I'm glad that she doesn't reach or touch many people in the same way that she has us. She's too strong for that and I think a lot of people are afraid of what she eminates. She's so raw that it scares some. I noticed some comments about the silence of the fanzine Really Deep Thoughts. Coincidentally, I just got a postcard in the mail today that says the following: ***** WE'VE BEEN HERE -- SILENT FOR A YEAR Yes, it has been nearly a year, but RDT is still around. We are finishing up our eleventh issue and hope to have it complete sometime soon. We know that over the last year we have not been fulfilling our commitment ot you. We deeply appreciate your patience and support even though we have a lot of work to do to earn your continued support. Toward that end our next issue will contain information about a major reorganization we are undertaking to improve in that area. We plan to complete that reorganization by the release of Tori's next album. Tori is hard at work in the studio and hopes to have her new album ready for release early next year, so we have a lot of work to do ourselves. OKTORIFEST! As usual, we will have our annual OkTorifest party on the first Saturday in October here in Columbus. I don't remember the "right to privacy" being a part of the Bill >of Rights. Whoa, okay, hold the phone... you've got someone else here now who feels rather strongly on the issue, and I must say that I side strongly with Karen... Yes, Tori is a public person. To some extent, yes, she has given up a PART of her privacy... BUT, under no circumstances, should she be hounded, tortured, and practically chased whenever she decides to go to... let's say, a party, or whatever. Unless Tori (or any other star/public person) were to go to a PUBLIC activity, such as the Calvin Klein show or something, there should be no prying eyes following them around all the time. THe only time anyone opens to the public is when they are IN public. Tori's home is private to her, and noone at all has the right to take that from her. Haven't we learned anything at all from the *overly publicized* Princess Di incident? Some of these godforsaken fans can become WORSE than the papparazi, hounding for autographs and pictures. She gives enough of her time to the public, leave her alone and let her have some peace when she's in her own home. As for the address, if it's posted on the 'net, I don't think it would hurt to post it here, since anyone can get it anyways. BUT, I don't think that it's really her real address... maybe somewhere she used to live. No, there is no "right to privacy" in the Bill of Rights, but it does say something about "certain unalienable rights", and I do believe that they had privacy in mind. After all, how would you feel if I came and watched you take a shower? Don't you think you would have the right to that privacy? Everyone, even someone in as influential a position as President of the US, deserves THAT privacy. - -Ray (aka Cochese) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Because I CANTNOT win without losing my dear." -Alanis Morissette - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Years go by, will I still be waiting for somebody else to understand?" -Tori Amos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 19:55:26 -0700 From: Chloe Sparkle Subject: Tori and the burning piano Ok, I don't remember what she said word for word because this was over a year ago. We were sitting in the back room at KOME, a San Jose radio station, with Tori, talking about BfP. The promo poster she had brought with her to sign for us had the Cover of BfP on one side and the burning piano picture on the other. This is the story of why she did that picture as close as I can remember. "well, with this shot I was kinda paying tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis... You remember that scene in the movie where he sets his piano on fire after having to open for Chuck Berry? Well in the movie he says, 'Top that.' But what he really said was 'top that, nigger.' BTW, what everyone says about Tori being one of the sweetest women in the world is true. She really does seem to care about what you're saying when you're talking to her. She gives you her complete attention. I was impressed with how sincere and eloquent she was. Having the opportunity to actually sit down and talk to her for an hour was the highlight of my Tori fandom. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 20:01:50 PDT From: "Ray Bailey" Subject: Karen's name >Anyhow, back to the discussion as continued by Karen, Goddess of the >Groove.
