Thanks to Christa for the electronic version of this article. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. <>====<> <>====<> <>====<> <>====<> <>====<> Q: What is your most treasured material possession? Tori: My two Bosendorfer pianos. One is on this continent and one is in America. They're hand-made and it takes them five years to make each one. Both of mine have different personalities. The one in the States, she's been a battered wife, she was at one of the Catholic churches in New York City and they knocked the shit out of her. She's been through it, that girl. She's wary, and you can feel her experiences in her wood. The one in Europe, I found her when she was a few months old and took her on the road, and she had no character, she was boring, but I took her every night and moulded her. She's now really flirty and open. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997 07:58:55 -0400 From: "Michael L. Whitehead" Subject: Tori's Religious beliefs Richard Handal Said: >The question of Tori's personal religious beliefs was posed here a number >of weeks back and no one answered. And although some folks have discussed >some specific aspects of personal belief that Tori has talked about, no >one has mentioned whether or not Tori considers herself, for example, a >Christian. One can be a devout believer in Christ as one's personal savior >without going to church or even believing in the specific doctrine of, >say, the United Methodist church in which Tori was raised. I think the quote I posted a few days ago answers this in some respects. It all depends on what you mean by Christian. In the trasitional sense, this often means you believe that Jesus is the son of god and that he came to earth to forgive sins. When Tori says: "And if God did want to send his (quote unquote) "only son," which is a joke. What do you mean "only son?" It's like, so he picks a certain race and a certain kind of color to be his only son, and yet created all of us. No, that's *NOT* gonna' happen. That's how the story goes, but I don't believe the story." It seems obvious to me that Tori is not a Christian in the "traditional" sense. (At least not when she said this, in 1994. It is certainly possible that she has changed her mind...) There are other, more modern ways of defining Christianity however, and in that case, the situation is certainly open for debate. But Tori does not seem to accept Jesus as a savior, which is how many (but not all) people would define Christianity. Lisa the EWF in Norway - ---------------------------------------------------------- what's the connection between trent reznor and tori amos? we met on a friendship level. it was not like some mutual a** kissing thing. i really liked her first album, which is not the kind of thing i'd normally listen to. someone had given it to me and said that it sounded like sinead o'connor. i f**king can't stand sinead o'connor, so I ignored it. then i saw the video for silent all these years and it struck me in a way where i wasn't sure if i liked it or not. but it was interesting. i was pleasantly surprised to find someone who i thought was taking chances. not playing it safe, and also writing good songs, melodies and really good lyrics. i thought that i should try and get in touch with her, just to try and say, not that i normally do this either, i think your record's really good. i relate to her work a lot, on some level, in an opposite of a nine inch nails arrangement kind of way. i really think that it works. she approaches things with a totally different aesthetic than i do, but it's good. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997 16:31:59 -0400 (EDT) From: ANaStAsla@aol.com Subject: "Girl" In the song "Girl" who is doing the guest vocals? it sounds like a male singing along with Tori... does anyone know??
