Hi all fellow Tori-philes I hope I am allowed to post this here, but I am sitting in a real dilemma.... I am living in South Africa and the only Tori stuff that we ever get, is the studio albums. No singles, no bootlegs, nothing!! I was really hoping that someone would offer to tape me the B-sides and live non-album tracks she's done. I would obviously be willing to either pay for the tapes/postage/etc or otherwise be willing to tape some stuff of local artists who fall in the same musical category as Tori.... Several weeks ago, I decided to forward off an unused SCSI Drive that we replaced here (with a larger cheetah) to assist Smoe.Org. Currently, we have little we can do to actually help smoe.org, as no one (fedex/ups etc.) will not handle anything around here.. Here's what I want to do: If someone is anywhere near smoe.org and can help me in providing you the $$$ to get smoe.org a drive, please email me. I think this is a great service, and want to be all the help I can, but they needed this, like, yesterday, and I'm sick of dicking around and just want them to get taken care of. Any takers? Whitehead" Subject: Tori and therapy I have read (and I am sorry to say I do not have the reference in front of me...) that Tori had some "untraditional" therapy to help her through some of her experiences. I have no idea what that means, but that was her quote (or close to it...) Also, I think it is important to put that other quote of hers in perspective, about her not needing therapy, that appeared on this list a few days ago. I think she said that in reference to getting over her breakup with Eric. In any event. Tori has on several occasions recognized the fact that therapy can be a good thing, especially when healing from something like rape. I just wanted to say that, because if someone read that one quote about not needing a shrink out of context, they might think that Tori always disapproves of therapy. I don't think that is the case at all. I might also note that during the Under The Pink tour, as "her life was falling apart", as she explains it, she fled to Hawaii and not only discoved Pele, who we all know quite well now, but spent time with a wise medicine woman. This to *me* is certainly a form of therapy! Thanks for letting me say these things :) Yours in Tori, Mikewhy - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael L. Just to let you know- this is a HUGE REQUEST. you should do a little web-searching and narrow your choices down (EVERY live non-album track is a HUGE AMOUNT that noone has compiled yet.) I have taped and traded with people outside the US before, and I have not had a problem, and would be willing to consider this, if you make your choices a little more carefully. -j > > Please I am desperate!! > Please email me privately > > Jacques > > Botha-j@marlin.vista.ac.za > ********************************************** *Jennifer E. On the credits in the inside leaflet for NTRB, it says, "Dutch Pilots - R.O.B and Marcel". That refers to, i'm assuming, the crackling, murmuring voices heard about until 1:05 of the song. Has anyone managed to translate the tape or at least figure >out what it is generally about? > > Will It's better than that. When Tori performed live in Den Haag in March this year I managed to speak to Marcel van Limbeek, who assisted in the recording of the CD. The story is as follows: during the recording of the CD, "Red baron" was one of those one-take tracks. They were actually testing a new mike, as an other one had broken down. Marcel and Rob were talking about technical stuff through walkie-talkies. (Are they called that where you live?) They were just discussing the sound level and the compression or something like that. Somehow, Tori picked up the talking in her headphones and asked what language they were using. Marcel replied "Dutch", and asked if they should stop talking. Tori motioned to them to go on, however, and Marcel asked if they should talk in English. Tori answers: "No, Dutch", which is what you hear on the recording. The talking does _sound like_ pilots, but that's just what inspired Tori to the lyrics. "Not the Red Baron" was recorded in one take. I hope this clears up the confusion about this particular question!! Can anyone with >a knowledge of European history explain why she would have a Germanic accent? >I know the Celts moved around a lot in the early centuries. The reason has to do with no one's history but her own. She is of Welsh descent, and grew up in Brittany, hence the French/Germanic accent. She has also spent quite a bit of time living in Dublin, and you can hear that in the intonation of her speaking voice as well. Interesting tidbit: she also used to live in New Haven, CT, and was at one time a waitress at Toad's Place, where Tori played at the end of her _LE_ tour. I'm not sure of the exact timeline, but I think it's possible that Katell may have been working there at the time of the show! ObTori: Has anyone seen Beavis and Butt-head watching the "God" video?
