I heard it on the radio one time and was delighted by the spirited feel combined with the unique harmonies. It was played in the middle of a very grunge-type set of music, so the "cheeriness" of it made the song stand out even more. After hearing this song several more times, I went out and bought Under the Pink- causing me to become an immediate Tori junkie. The song I am currently most enamored of would probably be Professional Widow or Past the Mission....it's a toss-up, and both are very cool for their own reasons. Outside of my stereo, I am a band director and general music teacher in the Chicago public schools. Yes, everything you've heard is true. ;) Chris Semon wombats@earthlink.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Jul 1997 14:57:45 +0100 From: "Howard Shortt" Subject: Hullo This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --------------D3952FCBA035F669547BA723 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hullo everone, I'm new to the list. So I thought I'd just introduce myself first off. My name is Howard, I'm 24, Irish obiviously I love music! I have a rather large Tori Collecton considering what she's done so far. I became an addict after a friend lent me a tape of Little Earthquakes, the most immediate song for me was Mother and after that I link myself mostly to Sugar... therefter anything goes. I was delighted to find a mailing list and I hope I'll get lots of information from it. Here's the input of a semi-lurker (for what it's worth) :) 1. I had heard _God_ often on the radio and really thought it was a good song, but it didn't really get to me. The song that really did it for me was _Crucify_. It was so incredible and Tori seemed to be able to put all of my angst into a coherent and powerful song. Current favorites include _Bells For Her_, _Hey Jupiter_ and _Putting The Damage On_. I was lucky enough to see her when she was in Albuquerque last November, and I have to say that Tori fans are like none other I've ever met. Everyone was so considerate at the concert and made sure that all were able to have the personal experience that is a Tori concert. The acoustics at Popejoy hall were _incredible_ and I can't wait until she comes back! :) 2. I'm currently an Administrative Services Specialist working in a rather bureaucratic (as you can tell from my title) agency of our federal criminal justice system. I attended the University of New Mexico and have a BA degree in Psychology and have almost finished my MA in Sociology (all but thesis. Does that sound familiar to anyone out there???) Anyway, that's it for me. I'm on a few mailing lists, but from what I've "seen" this group seems to have a large percentage of friendly and passionate people out there. I only know one other person where I live who is as into Tori as I am, and I don't see her too often. Actually talking to other fans got me to thinking about how I became interested in Tori, and got me wondering just who you people are too. So how's about a poll (this means you too lurkers)? Poll # 1. What is THE ONE Tori song (okay - you can have a tie) that did it for you; that made you say 'I've gotta go out and get everything I can by this person?' Poll #2. What do you do? Student? Studying what? Working? Doing what? Okay, I'll go first. #1. The song that does it for me is Precious Things. For the life of me I can't explain why. Maybe it goes too deep for words. The version I am most touched by is that from the LE video. Watching her play with such intensity just knd of makes me feel that way too. #2. I pay the bills (usually) by being a supervisor at Kinko's. I've always wanted to be in the printing business and Kinko's is where I've ended up. It's a fun job most of the time and I get to deal with a lot of different people. I also play the keyboard and am writing a comic book (who hasn't read Sandman yet) that I hope to self publish someday (anybody know any artists?). That's it for me. If you want, you can respond to this personally, but I think it'd be fun to see everybody's answers on the list. Now it's your turn. The first time I saw Tori was in MTV in the SATY video and I thought that that was the kind of music that I'd always wanted to hear... but nothing happened since I couldn't get LE where I live (Saltillo, Mexico). The same thing has happened with all her albums, nobody knows about her here. Can you believe that? Anyways, a few months later, I was in a record store of a bigger city when I saw the Winter video... I bought inmediately the CD and the rest is history... It's very difficult to pick just one or two fave songs.. for me, they have been changing since I became a Tori fan.. Right now I'm into LE and Yes, Anastasia... #2 I'm a 26 year old, Computer Systems Engineer and I work for Ericsson developing software for telephonic exchanges since four years ago. This may sound a little strange, but I don't know what the song was....I caught Tori as guest on the show 'Later ....with Greg Kinnear'. She was beautiful and played a marvelous piano, but I was captivated by the way her mouth always smiled: even when she was singing....it was always smiling. I was entranced and rushed out that weekend to get a Tori CD. :) >Poll #2. What do you do? Student? Studying what? Working? Doing what? I am a graduate student at the University of Toledo.
