It was so gorgeous and I just had to tell all my friends about my "little discovery".. #2 Right now it's the summer, but afterwards I will be going into my senior year of high school. I'm planning to study music in college.. but in the meantime I'm working on my own musical endeavor, my own demo. Hopefully one day I'll get to express myself the way Tori does. - -Anastasia- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jul 1997 17:17:39 -0400 From: Little Baby Subject: JuMpiN' oN tHe BanDwAgOn. (pOLL cOnTeNt) Hi all you tori-philes... I thought I'd just include myself in this little poll deal... >Poll # 1. What is THE ONE Tori song (okay - you can have a tie) that >did it for you; that made you say 'I've gotta go out and >get everything I can by this person?' ONE song? hehehe. damn. alright, since we're allowed to have a tie :), i guess i'd have to say, without a doubt, Precious Things and Yes, Anastasia. Precious Things' angst and lyrics hit home with me...and Yes, Anastasia has some of the most beautiful piano melodies i've ever heard. As soon as a friend played these songs off of LE and UtP for me, i was hooked. i practically ran across the street (dodging the little kiddies and cars in the process, mind you :) to the record store and demanded to know where they kept all the tori merch. The guy looked at me funny (i think he thought i was some sort of freak, seeing how excited i was ;), but he led me to the section nonetheless and i found my sanctuary. :) >Poll #2. What do you do? Student? Studying what? Working? Doing >what? I'm a full time student. :( I live in the oh-so-loverly state of VA (come visit me sometime). so that's it for me. great job with the poll idea! I've bought "Little earthquakes" about 1 year after a friend taped me the CD. The song that did it was "China". In fact, it was odd tracks : Crucify, Saty, Winter and China. My favourite is definitely China. I'd like to add "Black swan" cause it's not mentioned yet. #2. I'm 26, searching job as a programmer or webmaster or something about Internet. Yello, I like reading this interesting poll, so I thought I'd contribute. I first saw Tori perform on tv when I was in 8th grade, she was barefoot and singing on mtv, i don't remember the song but it was beautiful. and i never went out and searched for her cd. then in 11th grade this girl in my english class played "crucify" and i thought damn, that is some great music. i got saty (when I first got on this list, I was like what the hell is saty?") and at first was scared away and didn't like it. then you know the drill, i was hooked to every song, but let me tell you, this was something that transcended my paula abdul-mariah carey-neneh cherry-en vogue love affairs of the past. i mean this was something spiritual for me, her music was revolutionary, transcendental, made me praise everything freakish and dreamlike about her music. But i have to say i LOVE (especially the live version) of "Cornflake Girl" with her little dance at the start. i laughed about reading how one person got hooked at a party where they were trying to get tori convertees. i try that with everyone. in fact most of my friends really do love her. i am a student, a junior at the university of houston. i want to be a writer, mainly of poetry and short fiction. i am studying creative writing and anthropology. this fall i am going to study in India, in the desert region of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. I get to stay in this majestic fort that overlooks the city, and I leave in about a month. you can bet i'll be taking all my tori with me... lots of love from the air conditioning capital of the world, anita ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jul 1997 18:38:38 -0400 From: elwoj of robyndell Subject: Re: problem... also sprach bluegirl: >my post seem to be taking forever to get to the list & i am wondering >why...? one of many possible reasons is that precious-things is a private list. this means that the e-mail address from which you post to the list must exactly match the address you used to subscribe. if it doesn't, your post will get forwarded to listmeister mike and myself for approval. since both of us work day jobs, that means any messages delayed for that reason probably will not go out until the late afternoon or evening. i don't know if this is your problem or not, bluegirl, but i wanted mention it since a fair number of responses to phil's poll were held up for this very reason (i just approved all of them, so they should appear soon). so, if any of you have more than one address, please make sure that the one you post from is the one that you are subscribed as. if you need help figuring out which is what, i'll be happy to assist. while i'm here... 1) i'm not sure it was a specific song that hooked me on tori as much as it was the sound of her piano playing. in all seriousness, i listened to the album for a month or so before any single song really registered as an entity separate from the whole album. if i had to pick one though, it would be "little earthquakes". 2) i have a degree in chemical engineering, but i'm currently building computer models of oil refineries and the (ridiculous and ridiculously complex) system on which those models run. also, astrokitty asked: >And I have a question for everybody on the list, kinda... Has anyone noticed >their interest in Tori waning recently because of no new stuff and no tour? i don't think my interest in tori has waned as much as my interest in other albums and artists as waxed. there's much too much good music out there to focus solely on one person, no matter how good they are. in the past couple days, i've been listening to the new records by dar williams and sarah mclachlan a lot. last week, it was the latest two discs in roy harper's bbc series. next week it will be somebody else. tori will have her turn again, soon as she puts something new out...though i still put on her albums occasionally just so i don't forget. woj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jul 1997 15:44:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Hey Jupiter Subject: $0.02 on the Poll Hey EWF's-- 1. The song that did it for me was *without a doubt* "Crucify." I had just crawled back in my room after a failed suicide attempt (a loaded shotgun and unloaded shotgun look a lot alike) and slapped on the radio. Great Goddess! _*NO ONE*_ has *ever* cut into me the way she did that day. I have images f my heart getting ripped out, doused in lemon juice and run through puree on a blender. Of course, she also started the healing. 2. I'm a student at Western Washington University taking summer classes to catch up a bit--I took a real light load during the year and ended up five credits short of advancing to sophomore status, so *technically* I'm still a freshman for another 2 weeks. But basically a sophomore hoping to get accepted into the communication department and get a job as an advocate/activist or PR rep. Actually, I have followed Tori since LE, but I was never overly interested until BFP. I had heard Cornflake Girl on the radio, and my best friend was a huge toriphile, so I heard LE and UtP in her car... but I was not interested until I heard Caught a lite sneeze on the radio. I bought the whole album right away, and I think that it was Hey Jupiter and Putting the Damage on that finally did it for me. > Poll #2. What do you do? Student? Studying what? Working?
