OK, so AFAIK, the ideas of a Cornflake or Raisin Girl comes from Posessing The Secret Of Joy by Alice Walker. Does anyone know, SPECIFICALLY, the ORIGIN of these terms? The last time I asked this, I got a private e-mail comparing 'cornflake types' and 'raisin types',and of course that helps in understanding the song ("raisin types are more open-minded") but that doesn't really tell me where these terms came from. Does ANYONE know??? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 May 1997 14:18:31 BST From: "Lou C. Pherr" Subject: Igloo Blubber Hey all. Does ANYONE know the mailing address of "Igloo Records" or Arthur Spivak's managing agency? Does anyone >know, SPECIFICALLY, the ORIGIN of these terms? i don't know the specific origin of these terms, but here's some spare change anyways: i don't think that the ideas of cornflake and raisin girls were inspired by the book, rather they're her personal metaphors for types of people -- specifically, types of women. now, what the song is about -- betrayal of women by women -- is where the connection to alice walker's book is. there is an interseting interview of tori by someone at the baltimore sun (i'm guessing, based on the style of the questions that it was j.d. considine) which touches on this. you can read its entirity at the fairy tales website, . woj ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 May 1997 12:04:00 -0500 (EST) From: Charlie Poole Subject: Re: Igloo Blubber Hi Lou, On Mon, 26 May 1997, Lou C. I don't know the address for Igloo but I would think that any record distributor should be able to easily look up the address for you. Arthur Spivak's address is easy; it's in the back of the tour books: Arthur Spivak Michael Weaver, Assistant Spivak Entertainment 11845 West Olympic Blvd. Suite 1125 Los Angeles CA 90064 If you write them I, for one, would like to know what response you get. Does anyone else notice how Tori's voice sounds innocent, sort-of naive on these songs? There's a freshness in these recordings that doesn't seem present in any songs I can think of... I was talking with another Toriphile and we both made this observation. What does everybody else think? - -Megan PS- My web page (http://members.aol.com/AstroKitty/Tori.htm) is kind-of messed up right now and AOL won't let me update it (and I have lots of new stuff to add, too!) I am very into this song, always have been, always will be. The feel behind the song realy moves me. But I am having trouble understanding parts of the song. I would like to hear what all of you think about the song. I won't go into my analysis yet until I hear what you all think. But something to think about: why does she allude to the screech of prince's wail at the end of purple rain at the end of her hey jupiter?
