I agree with John on the open-minded thing when it comes to liking Tori. It's not music for just anybody, but for the thinking people. Somewhere on Internet I read a Tori-article with the header: Tori Amos, the thinking fan's Madonna. I wished I thought it up myself cause I totally agree. It's almost a criterium when I meet potential lovers that they appreciate or at least know her music. When it comes to gay and bisexual people being associated with liking Tori. I do think that gay people are often more open-minded then straights. When you discover those feelings it forces you to think about who you are and who you want to be, you're often more in touch with your feelings and your needs. And that's also what Tori seems to be. I am also gay, in both meanings of the word. By the way this doesn't mean that you can't be open-minded if you're straight. So Doug please don't be offended. But let me ask you, do you think you're open-minded? In touch with your feelings and needs? I don't think someone can really appreciate Tori if they are narrow-minded and conservative. (The same people that don't accept homosexualtity?) Does anybody have more insight on Tori's opinion on homosexuality. I have radio performance on tape of a program called LoveLine. Tori answers a question of a girl who is in love with her best friend and doesn't know what to do or how to tell her. Tori gives her some advice but avoids talking about own experiences. She says it's nobody's business, which is absolutely true, but I'm still curious. My guess is that she is open-minded enough to have tried it sometime,\ but her heart goes out to men. The reaction says much more about American attidudes to the percieved nature of tori music than anything else. just an opinion Paul. by the way Tori in Japeneese means attacker. I just wanted to respond to this since I guess I started the thread. I would agree with Paul in saying that claiming that the straight community is closed minded would be wrong. We can't make that generalization. People are people in that some are open minded to whatever, and others are afraid of things they don't understand. I would also like to agree with whoever was writing the bit about LesBiGay people being more in touch with themselves. This is not to say that the Straight community is not, but I think (and this is only my opinion) that when a person does start to question and really explore their sexual orientation, it does FORCE one to look inside and really analyze what they're all about. Certainly there are other experiences and things that could make a person really, REALLY critique and analyze themselves, but since nearly all of us in the LesBiGay community HAVE been forced to do this, I would agree that GENERALLY (not all the time), LesBiGays are more in touch with themselves. I still question the validity of the point that LesBiGays are more receptive to Tori's music because of this (like I said, I was into Tori long before I figured myself out). Anyway, there's my two cents on the matter.
