The Nation is a major left-leaning weekly political magazine in the U.S., and they always have a political cartoon on the top portion of the inside front cover. The cartoon in question relates to a political scandal recently brought up concerning President Clinton being accused of offering special access-- such as spending the night in the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House--to large donors to his presidential political campaign last year. It suggests that, among other satirical ideas, another premium which could be offered to a donor of $5,000 would be that the donor could attend a Tori Amos concert with President Clinton's teenage daughter Chelsea. I recently sent a scan of the cartoon to Mike Whitehead, and he put it up on his famous and fabulous website at: http://www.aye.net/~mikewhy/nationtoon.gif Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 1997 09:16:53 -0400 (EDT) From: DanKitti99@aol.com Subject: Re: Secret of Joy In a message dated 97-04-28 01:27:34 EDT, you write: > I have not actually read "Possessing the secret of joy", but a friend > of mine did, and I think she mentioned that normally after the > circumcision, the "superfluous" flesh would be thrown to the chickens. > This proves that this book not only influenced "Cornflake Girl" but > also "Blood Roses"- > "...When chickens get a taste of your meat, girl". Just out of curiosity, where do the cornflakes come in? watch this space for more flakey questions. :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 1997 13:38:30 EST From: "so much more than everything..." Roseanne's bearded partner then beastly suggested playing Tori Amos, only to be told by DJ's girlfriend: "Hey! I like her". Just thought you should know. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 1997 14:43:25 EST From: Ewald Katherine Subject: re: cornflakes Hmmm...I actually think that was a commercial for Just Right cereal. Tori has said some direct things about Cornflake Girl: 1) "Rabbit" is a symbol for Fear, as in Native American stuff. 2) "The Golden Gun" is God. The man with the Golden Gun thinks he knows so much. ok, those are 2 things i know Tori has said about the song. Also, Blood Roses is inspired by "Possessing the Secret of Joy" on one level. All the female circumcision stuff. - -weirdy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Apr 1997 22:38:55 -0400 (EDT) From: Truna@aol.com Subject: Re: Roseanne In a message dated 97-04-28 19:08:13 EDT, MLLX6DV2@fs1.ec.man.ac.uk (Doron) writes: << This is probably old news to you Americans, but last week there was a (particularly bad) episode of "Roseanne", shown here on British telly, in which they were trying to get Roseanne out of her room and out of her gloom, and it was suggested to play loud music to shock her out of her systems or something of the sort.
