[A Wee Little Girl With a Can of Gasoline ] Tori on the radio TONIGHT 4/15 - Boston only [mr bean jeans Subject: from Colombia Hello there, I've been following this list for several months now. I have finally decided to participate. There have been several topics, repeating over and over in the past weeks: dance mixes, selling out, Angie Dickinson, the hate list... About the dance mixes, well, I must say I think they are great. Thanks to a friend from the list *hola Laura!*, I received today the In The Springtime of His Voodoo Maxi Single, and the mixes are just amazing. Well, yes, I too love Tori and her music, but I must say that variations (listen to that Sugar Dub!!) to the "girl and piano" are also wonderful. Now, making a connection between dance mixes, and "selling out", well, that's a mistake. I think, as someone posted, that more people are noticing our great Tori and her music. Unfortunately some of these new fans are those loud ones at the concerts (not like if I've ever been to one), but everyone is welcome to listen to her music, don't you think? And I also think that it's natural that as an artist matures in his/her work, he/she will get noticed by more people, and this is what some of you consider "selling out." About the hate page, I visited it, and I must say I enjoyed it. I enjoyed someone being so honest about what they think. I must agree that this girl is obviously just doing it to bother us toriphiles, so this makes me doubt about her real feelings. But please don't bomb her with complaints. Those quotes from supposed fan mail are really, really, reverse publicity for Tori and her music. Well, just one more thing...thanks to all of those on the list. It's really a great way to keep up-to-date in the Tori-related area, especially living in South America, where, well, the goddess is not that well known! un besote, Cynthia ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Apr 1997 04:07:09 -0400 From: "Michael L. Whitehead" Subject: Tori Hate Page Comment Hi dear Toriphiles, As I expected, there have been several responses already taking up for the Tori hater, which I pretty much expected. Heck, no one takes up more for first amendment rights than I do. I will state very quickly that she has a right to say what she says, and that the fact she dislikes Tori has no real negative effect on Tori or her music. But still... I sure as heck am not going to pat this woman on the back. Yes, I am offended by her site, and yes I expressed my outrage. That is the other end of free speech. She is not JUST saying she dislikes her music. She is attacking those that do. I am amazed at the degree of tolerance some people have. I mean I also have friends who don't care for Tori's music, and I love them, but if they started saying ugly things about her, I would say something back to them...strongly. When you believe in something and love something you defend it. I realize in an age where Howard Stern in idolized, perhaps that is old fashioned and silly. So be it. It is not "cool" these days to take moral stands it seems. I love Tori, and I will express displeasure about anyone who DISRESPECTS her. If one does not like her or her music, fine. I have no problem with that. But disrespect is another thing entirely. I will NOT defend this. If that makes me judgemental and overly moral then so be it. I have a sense of humor like anyone (remember the Tori country album?). And I do advocate ignoring this person. When I emailed her I was perfectly nice. And she was nasty, rude, and insulting. It would be a waste of time to talk with her. Tori has had a profound impact on my life. I honor that, and I will not allow anyone to insult that, or laugh at that. SO I will ignore her, but I WILL express my outrage. I will stand for what I believe in. I hate to think that people are offended by that. The orange book is a promo from the BfP release parties sponsored by Out magazine. I can see definite similarities... in piano for sure. However, I'm not sure I understand how it makes fun of PtM.. the explanation about the cooking thing in Trent's house makes more sense. I don't like any of the singles she's put out for this album either, with the exception of Hey Jupiter. But you have to take into account the fact that this album was 18 songs long, while the others were only twelve songs each. I think there were 23 songs released for Little Earthquakes, 22 for Under the Pink, and 29 for Boys for Pele. That's not counting remixes or live versions of previously released songs. So even without the remixes, she's released more from this album than from any other. -=-laurie ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: You live your life like a canary in a coal mine :: :: You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line :: :: The Police :: :: reason let others give and realness bring :: :: ask the always impossible of me :: :: eecummings :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Apr 1997 17:45:46 -0400 (EDT) From: jennifer Subject: chickens. well..
