I'd heard it was not in the catalog anymore as of a few months ago, but that copies would likely be on the shelves of some stores for a while. I was in SoHo in Manhattan Sunday afternoon in a store called Rocks In Your Head, and saw a copy of it there in $18. I just wanted to let folks know about it. Q: Pick five words that describe yourself. Tori :I'll give you five pharses. Butter not margarine. One- and-a-half E-if you were looking at mee, I would be a one-and-a-half E trip:I'm not a five E trip, I'm not that interesting. But I'm one-and-a-half-E, if it's cut godd... by the Hell's Angels. Hi Amber, >>>do you guys feel that way, or do you think she's grown and changed for the better? i think BfP is incredible! i wouldn't change a damn thing! everything that's in there is there for a purpose - Tori produced that album herself! i love UtP and LE too, but they're all good for different purposes, and i think Tori is getting better, not worse!!<<< I have to agree with you that Tori is getting better...definately NOT worse! While I still love LE and UTP, I must say that, instrumentally, I really dig BfP. The harpsichord, and harmonium add such an intersting twist to the *girl and the piano* thing that already existed, bringing flavor into the mix. I must also say that I'm in love with the album for the drumming too. I'm a drummer and a BIG fan of Manu Katche... I think it's his flavor (as well as her voice) that adds sexiness to such songs as ITSOHV and Little Amsterdam (don't know why people criticize that song...I think the groove is sexy as hell!)...He knows where to accent, rim shot and do little cymbal splashes in all the right places. I liked the Talula remix that she used to incorporate at least one drum track into her live performance, but it changed the original drum format ( I prefer the original, stripped-down, Manu format) which drew me to it to begin with and I would LOVE to see him tour with her next time around, if she were to incorporate a band thing (just a rumour I heard). I heard, in an interview with Tori, that Manu prefered to record his tracks in a room alone and Tori was so anxious to watch him play that she had someone boost her up to a window, so she could watch from there (think she got busted when she fell or something like that)...and he said she coulda watched if she wanted, but she didn't wanna break his concentration or groove. She said she loved how he laid the stick down on the snare with just the right attack in all the right places....that it was like UUHHH, you could just feel it...... I know that feeling well and tend to agree with her wholeheartedly..... just my six sense..... In response to your roommates's critique (Believe me, my old roommate gave me PLENTY of practice in defending my faith in Tori!), I would have to say that she's got some points, but I don't agree with them too much. I would have to agree in that I think BFP is Tori's weakest album (though weak on a Tori scale, it's still MUCH higher than most other musicians). I think Tori is possibly starting to sell out a bit (which scares me). I'm sure we've all heard Tori refer to LE as a very "naked" album and she put on some clothes for UTP. For BFP though, it seems (to me) like she's not only put on some clothes, she's put on some brand name stuff with the tag exposed to the world. Her songs are still awesome but are STARTING to lack the depth and feel of her old stuff. (I'm sorry but "I've been raising up my hands, drive another nail in" is way beyond "I need some voodoo on these prunes") Please don't take this as me slandering the Goddess (believe me, I've got the WHOLE shrine thing in effect in my room) but (in my humble opinion) the girls are getting weaker. Hope her next album is a little stronger. I always thought she was just confusing "E trip" with "E ticket." I expect she picked up the reference when she lived in Los Angeles, as it became part of the language around there. Info on "E tickets" below. I edited it down from a website. I'm sure many people in the U.S. don't know what an "E ticket" is. (Especially since they were phased out in the late 1970s and early 1980s.) I can certainly understand why you in South America wouldn't. Almost anyone in Los Angeles would know. The only Disney park with "E tickets" these days is the one in Tokyo, Japan. You know, she does this kind of thing all the time. Not only in interviews, but in her lyrics--refer to something that is quite specifically culturally or historically based, and expect people just know what the heck she's talking about, or else for us to somehow figure it out. No wonder she sees us internet fans as archaeologists, and is so flattered by our bothering with all of this. This is one of the main reasons Tori and the internet were made for one another. I can't even begin to imagine not being online and trying to find out about Tori's music at the level at which I have become completely accustomed. How bizarre. But most guests in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's needed a ticket for each ride. Tickets came in denominations of A, B, C, D, and E -- with E tickets being the best. More About A-through-E Tickets * Although Disneyland called them coupons, guests called them tickets. Why? Because the coupons were sold in ticket books. * In Southern California slang, the expression "E ticket" came to mean any activity or event that was especially worthwhile or exciting. * Tickets were phased out in the late 1970's and early 1980's. First, Magic Kingdom Club members could buy unlimited passports. Then the option was extended to other guests. Finally ride tickets were eliminated entirely. <>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<> Some Disneyland Tickets (scanned images of various old Disneyland tickets) http://www.perry.com/disney/tickets/tickets.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Apr 1997 21:24:23 -0400 From: johanna Subject: Re: E-trip Laura from Uruguay asked: >> I need help on this, I was translating "Tori Amos Q questionnaire" (Mar >> 96) and I came across something I don't understand... can somebody >> explain to me what's the E trip thing she's talking about ?. I think it is her best work to date and most multi-leveled/complex work also. I suppose I love it for several reasons. It was the first Tori CD I ever owned. (Although I was a big fan of Pink and had taped it from a friend) but when I first heard it, it didn't quite land on my face and wiggle, it sort of seeped into the cracks of me after I had bought it (buying on the strength of CALS, Talula, BQ and Horses). It is very complex, and Tori has said that it is the album most "in code" as far as lyrics go. I still hear things I never did before. Also, during the time when I bought it, I was going through some stuff in my life that I didn't understand, but the album did. And I learned a lot emotionally from it. Now it is tied at the top three of my fave albums of all time (Others: Bjork "Post" and "Nearly God" (Tricky & Friends)) Could someone tell me who the heck Angie Dickenson is?
