I have heard comparisons to Pat Benatar and Lita Ford (not familiar with Lita Ford but I sorta see the Benatar connection). It's A Happy Day is very, um, Debbie Gibson? Years before Debbie Gibson, of course, and it's quite possible Debbie Gibson never heard (to this day even) any of the Tori Baltimore songs. And, has anyone heard her 1978 wedding performance? I complained to the store that was selling them for $10, but they declined to comment. More importantly - I have a tori cd called "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." It was put out by Westwood One recordings as rarities vol. 64, but I can't find a copyright date on it. Anyways, I bought it a little less than a year ago at a record convention for $35 (the person selling it knew nothing about it, and I didn't question the price because I'd never seen or heard of it before.) It's got some live songs, some non-album songs, and some remixes. I'm offering it at the same price to the first person who replies. Let me know if you are interested, or let everyone know if you have any more info on this cd. Nice, but not the > REAL Tori. No, not the "real" Tori, but those 19 minutes of her may just be the closest we're ever going to hear to what she sounded like in her D.C. club days. And they display the professionalism and eagerness to please that has lasted with her till this day. She's really singin' her little heart out on those songs. And the ease with which she switches between extemporizing--making up music as she goes along--and performing standard as well as current popular repertoire of the day also demonstrates the level of sheer professionalism she embodied, even at that young age. I find it remarkable. No matter whether or not one enjoys the songs on their own terms as music, all those old recordings are more important than "novelty" songs. They're really a window on the talents she embodied even at that young age. Personally, I love listening to the purity and heart of her voice in all those old recordings, if not all the actual songs themselves. She was really "selling" those songs. I have attached below the list of musical selections she played on that wedding tape. I've posted this before on at least one of these lists, but not recently. I did the research myself. :-) Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. <>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<>====<> WEDDING TAPE SONG LISTING - ------------------------- Extemporized piano Solo Piano, excerpt of One Hand, One Heart, from West Side Story: music by Leonard Bernstein More extemporized piano Piano and vocal, Evergreen: aka Love theme from A Star is Born, popularized by Barbra Streisand.
