Re: Whoa...Winter on ice skating ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 10:50:06 +0100 (MET) From: N.Verdijsseldonk@student.kun.nl Subject: reply Dear Charlie, First of all I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for calling me a troll. It is certainly one of the most beautiful names I've ever been awarded with. Ok, I'd like to discuss two things here: The reason why I started up this poll and second, your rather violent attack on myself and my poll. First, about the reason why I started this poll (by which you were apparently so offended). I just wanted to know (read this sentence with a huuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggeeeeeeeee stress on 'know') if there were Tori-songs around that were less popular than others. I realise now that my choice for the word 'crappiest' was not really appropriate, but I still stand behind my idea. It really hurts my feelings that a fellow Toriphile accuses me of trying to deliver her into the hands of 'our enemies' (whoever they may be). You really seem to have misunderstood my purpose there, because why on earth would I want to do a thing like that? You say there's no Tori-song that you don't like at all. Well, the same goes for me, Charlie. You say there are indeed songs you prefer to others. Well, the same goes for me Charlie (And "Ring My Bell" is just the song I always skip). The point I'm trying to make here, is that just like yourself I am a big Toriphile. And again you have to take my word on that for there's nothing more at the moment I can do to convince you of that. I don't want to bring Tori down, I don't want to bring her songs down (They mean more to me emotionally than you would probably ever be able to understand. I might tell you that little story sooner or later in private, because it's too personal for me to share it with everybody (no offense, boys and girls!!!), and I certainly don't want to bring her fans down. It's just my honest and humble opinion that a fan should always keep a critical eye open to what his/her favourite artist is giving them. And being critical doesn't mean that an artist should immediately be condemned and convicted for releasing something which is not completely to your taste. It simply means, like I mentioned before, that there will always be some aspects of an artist' music that you like better than others. There's nothing wrong with that, and therefore I can't really see what's wrong about sharing those critical points of view. This is what I mean by 'not blindly swalowing everything she releases'. And hey, I buy everything she releases where I can lay my hands upon, just to keep my collection as complete as possible (I think most of us do), so in a sense I am not objective either, and in a sense I am an excessive fan myself. But there are just some songs I hardly ever play, and some items I hardly ever look at (but which I still want to have anyway!!) And please don't twist my words by assuming that, since you call yourself objective but don't really dislike any of her music, I call you (quote) having "poor taste....no power of discussion....failure of intellectual acuity". Those are your words, not mine and I think such a rather non-sensical statement says more about your failure to grasp the essence of my idea than it does about my incapability to make myself clear. It's good that there are no Tori-songs that you specifically dislike. Please keep it that way!!! But you do admit there are some tracks you like more than others: well, why not sending them to my poll, because that's exactly what I want to know!!! I'm not a spy trying to sell as much heretics as I can to the inquisition. I'm just curious to know which Tori-songs are in general the more and less popular ones. Just like you, I decided to send this reply to pt to see what people have to say about it. Again, I am sorry if I hurt your feelings because it was never my intention, but please don't hurt mine by doubting the sincerity of my fanship (is this a correct word, oh hell, you know what I mean!!!). With respect, Stefan-The Flying Dutchman (Who also admires the red-headed goddess of fairies and her girlfriend the grand black piano and all her beautiful songs that fly around her like little pink butterflies) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 10:23:04 -0500 (EST) From: Little Earthquake Subject: Re: precious-things-digest V2 #12 Damn. Tori was on last night and I didn't get to tape it. I'm so pissed off. She looked so cute and was using all her little Tori metaphors that no one else seemed to be getting. When she mentioned to one guy that he might want to put on some Frank Sinatra and bring some wine to spice up his love life I thought the other guys on the show looked so dead compared to her. They were like huh....anyways, they just looked bored with the whole thing. YEa for Tori to lighten things up. "blue skies".... but, i listen to it just because it's new. and i really don't like some of those remixes... but i understand where she's coming from. a large majority of her fan base is gay... they go to clubs, and to keep them happy, we have dance mixes. i'm sure, if she had no gay following at all, we would not have these mixes (atleast not as many of them). but, "ring my bell", i kind of like it. but, that song on the Led Zepplin tribute cd is garbage. but, when i heard tori say that they recorded it all in one take (a professional was to say it was live, in the studio) i excused it. "daisy dead petals" is one of my favorites... i saw someone metion this as being a "bad" song.... just goes to show you we all have different tastes. - -rusty ps- so, tori is on both loveline and leno tonight? you can reach rusty at: agentorange2@juno.com or agentorange@mindspring.com come see me (& poe) and the pictures i took of her: http://www.enter.net/~husselman/poe.html please help support R.A.I.N.N.: http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/xenomorph/rainn.htm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 15:30:25 -0500 From: Sam Free <106247.2224@compuserve.com> Subject: Re: objectivity Charlie Poole said: > I have not heard a Tori song that I don't like.
