Keller" Subject: B-sides Depending on how you count it, there were roughly as many new, original B-sides from =Boys for Pele= singles as there were for =Under the Pink=; for my money, the more recent set were simply not as strong. Incidentally, a friend of mine asked me for a Tori Amos introductory sampler, and I put together a 90-minute career retrospective; in the next day or so I'm going to post the liner notes I'm sending him, since I thought the readership here might find it interesting. And though I'm more than willing to discuss why I put on what I did, I'm not going to be sympathetic to wounded cries of "how could you leave out Song X?" because I did give the song list a lot of thought. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Dec 1996 13:36:19 -0600 From: neile@sff.net (Neile Graham) Subject: Re: B-sides Donald G. I agree with Don on this--there simply weren't as many songs worthy of obsession with these new B-sides as there were for _Under The Pink_. For example, as far as original compositions go there was nothing the equivalent of "Honey" especially, but to my mind there wasn't even something as strong as "Sister Janet". I think it's also true of the covers. Sure the Chas and Dave covers are fun, but there's nothing with the power of the three covers on the limited edition of Cornflake Girl. For detailed comments/opinions about the singles, there's a page on The (very-much-underconstruction) Ectophiles' Guide To Good Music dedicated to her singles. I didn't finish up commenting on the BfP singles mostly because I stopped caring about them (time was also a factor here as the Guide is a lot of work and I have other artists who don't even have any info yet). I'm especially not a dance remix fan--these do nothing for me. Anyway, the singles page goes up to Talula. It's currently available at: http://weber.u.washington.edu/~neile/EctoGuide/amos.tori.singles.html though the Guide will shortly be moving (there will be forwarding info connected to the main pages once it moves). - --Neile - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham Please note new email & web pages address neile@sff.net http://www.sff.net/people/neile - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Dec 1996 16:01:15 EST From: Ewald Katherine Subject: Re: B-sides I know what you guys mean, but I am obsessed with Graveyard and Frog On My Toe. Artists committed for the tour include Paula Cole, Lisa Loeb, Aimee Mann, Neneh Cherry and tenatively includes Tori Amos and Queen Latifah. The tour plans to visit 30 to 35 cities, and more than 50 artists are expected to participate at various tour stops. Modeled on the festivals that rolled through area amphitheaters this past summer, the Lilith Fair will feature a main stage, a "coffee-house" stage for up-and-coming artists, vendors and family activities. McLachlan is a noted computer/internet buff. Count on this festival being "wired" with computer stations set up for fans to e-mail her and each other or check out her online retail site." 30 to 35 cities, maybe Tim will get his K.C. wish!
