[...at the Calvin Klein-Tori Amos press conference today to announce "Unlock the Silence," a year-long program in support of RAINN--the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, a non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C., which operates a free, 24-hour hotline for survivors of sexual assault.] > *WHERE: Calvin Klein, Inc. > > *205 West 39th Street > *1st floor > *New York City > > *WHEN: Wednesday, December 4th, 1996 > > *11:00 am This has long been in the works. Tori spoke about it as something that might happen many months ago, and when I was at the RAINN national headquarters back in October, their wonderful director Scott Berkowitz told me that this was in the lawyer stage, with only the "i"s to be dotted and the "t"s to be crossed. How complicated all this must have been! Expect lots of publicity for this through the calendar year--major magazine ads, (there's already one in the January Spin advertising the upcoming NYC benefit concert), TV and radio spots, etc. And for those who must try to collect every little snippet of Tori as it shows up on television, (and we know who we are), I suggest staying tuned to Entertainment Tonight, CNN's Showbiz Today and E! News Daily for the next few days until something on this press conference turns up on each show, as well as to MTV's Week In Rock over the weekend. And, as ever, to contribute to RAINN you can give your credit card number by phone or fax, or better yet, just send a check to: RAINN 252 10th Street, NE Washington, DC 20002 Voice Phone: (202) 544-1034 Fax Line: (202) 544-1401 The RAINN hotline number is: 1-800-656-HOPE RAINN has a small homepage at: http://www.cs.utk.edu/~bartley/other/RAINN.html If all of us would send just a few dollars in thanks to Tori for each of her concerts we attended on the Dew Drop Inn tour, a lot of money would come into RAINN. I think it's the least we can do. I gave five dollars for each of the shows I attended this year. I didn't think five dollars for each show was that big a deal, and if more folks did that it would be nothing to sneeze at. (Pardon the pun.) > and i thought tori would be trying to get some rest right about now... ;) She swore up and down to me in Boulder before the final concert of the tour that she'd be able to take care of her own needs now, and that she *would*, so I expect she must be okay to be doing this. :-) Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Dec 1996 09:47:01 -0500 (EST) From: Delirium Subject: Re: tori and calvin klein I think it is a great idea to get all of us to contribute to RAINN! $5.00 per show is not much and I know Tori would appreciate it! It would be a great way to give something back to her... by the way, I am from Florida, and am no starnger to long road trips to see musicians (I see Phish every New Years and Halloween wherever they may be) and I was wondering if anyone from my side of the globe will be road tripping to see this show. I have multitudes of family in NYC and would have plenty of places for people to stay- the thing is, i don't have a car... but there must be a way for me to get to see Tori again... this may be one of the last times we have to see her before her new masterpiece and next tour...... So if anyone from Florida or somewhere nearby is interested in doing this with me, please write so we can start to make plans immeadiatly...... I am in college, but I am sure I can take a few days off..... The performance of Hey Jupiter from that SNL taping is probably my favorite of all the ones I've seen. The lighting was very well-done (the dim blue light) and Tori seemed to be very emotional in this performance. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Dec 1996 10:48:45 -0500 From: hEaThEr SoLiMiNi Subject: more with RAINN Hello all, No one has mentioned it yet, so i'm sure if anyone knows, but, i was just checking out the January issue of Spin and happily found a full page picture/ad of tori concerning this whole Calvin Klein/ Unlock the Silence deal. What it says: The Concert for RAINN featuring Tori Amos, presented by Calvin Klein and the place (on Lifetime). One night only---Thursday, January 23rd, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Tickets go on sale December 9th, at the Garden Box Office, and all Ticketmaster outlets, or charge by phone. For info, call (212) 456-MGS1. Personally, i would kill to go to this, but being a lowly college freshmen without a car, i doubt i could make the trip there. :( Check out the ad!! It's a full page pic of tori wearing an "unlock the silence" baby tee and a flowered skirt. (note the scribbled-on hands:) In other news: (and i'm sorry if this isn't a relevant subject for the torinews list, but i'm trying to get everything in at one time...) #1. Has anyone heard, or have, the b**tleg "Tori Stories"? I'm interested in buying it, but i'd like to know a little about the quality first. I understand tori isn't particularly happy with the people who made this set--they broke into her parents house to steal the material for it, i think. #2. (and finally) Has anyone else noticed that there has been a severe lack of b-sides this album?? Besides those found on the assorted talula singles, the rest of the songs on the singles have been remixes. well, enough of my yappin', feather *#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#*><*#*<>*#* Heather Solimini (feather) http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/h/x/hxs171 422 Stone Hall (don't even bother....)
