Actually, I stumbled on it quite by accident since I listen to so little radio (quite sad around here). I was in a little used CD store and a voice with unmistakeable intonation spake the line "Before I sputter out". Anyone who's played "A Man Called E" more than once could not miss the similarity in that line. So I ask the guy if E's got a new album out. I get a strange look. I ask who is playing. "That's the Eels - Novicane For Your Soul" with a look like I have been living in cave somewhere. I was sure it was his voice, and the name of the group (what is his fascination with the letter E?) sounded plausible for him, so I checked the web when I got home and sure enough - he's formed a 3 piece and they've got a hit on thier hands. > On the subject of opening acts, I must say that I've been extremely > disappointed with all of Tori's opening acts throughout her current career, > with the exception of Bill Miller. E I enjoyed (but I was familiar with his stuff going in), Bill Miller was good the first time I saw him, bearable the second, Willie Porter was okay, if a bit ingratiating, and Josh Clayton-Felt (School of Fish's "Three Strange Days" was my only exposure going in) got better each time I saw him. The only one I really didn't care for was the '92 St. Louis stop. It was after E had dropped out and Tori was just picking up locals/regionals for a show or two as I recall. Can't even remember who they were. > As a rule, I don't even plan to show up > in time for the opening act any more. Well, I do know what you're getting at (praying that the Lilith Fair will make St. Louis a stop next year - I can dream), but never is a bit strong. In '92 after E dropped out, she had many differnt opening acts. One of them was bound to be female or female-fronted. St. Louis '92 was a duo - one male, one female, both with guitars as I recall. The music was rather forgettable, though the rudeness of the crowd didn't help I'm sure. Never say never. ;) bob ------------------------------ From: "J. She did this on the Under the Pink tour for both God and Cornflake Girl. I never really liked the taped God or Cornflake Girl {it's cool to see Steve Caton just jamming away while she's dancing and playing}, but I do have to admit that I like Talula on this tour. My only complaint, and it's a pretty small one at that, is the background vocals: it's disconcerting to hear her singing and with her voice on backup. /nad *************************************************************************** * Nadyne Mielke, CS majour, Southern Tech, Marietta, GA * * * * "I regret to say that we of the FBI are powerless to act in cases of * * oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate * * commerce. I didn't really miss God tho'...it's a good song, but some of the disharmonics set my teeth on edge.
