They sometimes show the more popular unplugged shows on Rage here in Australia so there may yet be hope of it appearing here. We don't as yet have MTV, even though we've just been inundated with a bunch of new TV channels. There is an Australian based music channel, called 'Red', which may show it at some stage. I have some Peter Gabriel videos that people are welcome to a copy of (in PAL only, I'm afraid) if they'd like to swap it for a copy of the Tori unplugged session ... (I can handle NTSC in my machine). I have some rarish Kate stuff, and probably some rarish Tori stuff although I don't know what it is off the top of my head. I tried for about 20 - 30 minutes to find this information on the internet, but to no avail. There clearly is no website like the U.S. MTV website for MTV Europe, and I could find no other listing for programming on MTV Europe anywhere else on the internet. I love to find helpful information for people, and spend many hours a week doing just that. I get private questions such as "A friend of mine is a teacher on a trip in India with a group of students, and a week ago I heard on the radio that there was a bus accident in India with a teacher for that program she's with, with the teacher and five of the students in the program were killed, and I was hoping you could find out for me if it was her and her group, or another of the five groups from that program who also went to India." Argh! I get questions such as, "A dear, dear friend of mine is visiting from Australia, and just last night, she revealed to my wife and me that she has Multiple Sclerosis. She didn't even tell her husband about it until a month ago, although she was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago. She needs to network with others who have the disease, but she currently has no internet access in her home in New South Wales, Australia. Can you send me a list of internet resources for MS patients, and also the names of some internet service providers in New South Wales which are inexpensive? Oh--and she's leaving town tomorrow, so I need this information tonight." I get something like this, of course, right when I'm about to logoff and go to sleep for the day, and end up blowing my entire daytime sleep schedule all to hell to answer the guy. (Gave him tons of information, too. The guy never even bothered to thank me until many months later, when I asked him if the information I sent him had been of any use to his friend.) I also privately answer many questions all the time from questions which are asked on many lists, because I am able to find out lots of stuff, and everyone else can't do it as well as I can. I *like* finding answers. I *like* to help people. I called MTV in the U.S.--a long distance phone call for me--because I wanted to get to the bottom of the start time over here, since the idiots were promoting it for two different times, even though I was planning to be home and watching the show as it was telecast, and could have easily known when the time came and adjusted accordingly had it turned out to be a 10 p.m. start time. However, I am *not* going to call *overseas* to help someone figure out when a TV show may or may not be telecast on their system. You seem perfectly capable of speaking up here. I suggest that you and others in a similar position, if you want to know something, and no on on a list has the answer--get on the phone or otherwise contact whoever you need to contact and find out for yourself, and stop whining! Thank you. I spent the best part of yesterday afternoon doing the very same - I always search the web before I ever post requests via lists or newsgroups, because I'm a resourceful kind of person. And I always take care to RTFM. > I get something like this, of course, right when I'm about to logoff and > go to sleep for the day, and end up blowing my entire daytime sleep > schedule all to hell to answer the guy. Congratulations Richard, you should have a medal. But as you're doing someone something off your own bat, you shouldn't expect cheques in the post for your services. > I also privately answer many questions all the time from questions which > are asked on many lists, because I am able to find out lots of stuff, and > everyone else can't do it as well as I can. But as you have failed to help me whatsoever does that give you the right to jump down my throat and give me an ear-bashing like I'm some kind of inconsiderate wanker/newbie encroaching on your precious time. > However, I am *not* going to call *overseas* to help someone figure out > when a TV show may or may not be telecast on their system. I didn't ask you to, nor did I ask anyone to, so don't sound like I'm putting you or anyone else out because I'm not. I didn't address anything personally to you, it was a general cry for help to the Toriphiles, who are, by and large, an understanding and helpful bunch. Something's got up your jumper, matey, but it wasn't me, so pack the negative vibes in. I want to see the MTV Unplugged so much it *hurts*. I asked as the last straw in the last batch of straws on Earth. I did not expect an abusive email effectively calling me passive, languid and unmotivated. > You seem > perfectly capable of speaking up here. Well, a couple of "haven't a clue, mate"s would have sent me in that direction, but a complete lack of response from anyone (the first time that's happened I might add) made me a little desperate. In your mode as self-styled internet troubleshooter you should learn some more patience. Prehaps you're not the only one out there who has some knowledge. I only asked, nay, pleaded in desperation, if anyone had any clue at all about MTV Europe's plans. The assumption of many Americans that the Internet is just some kind of territorial extension of the USA is a complete pain in the arse as the UK is criminally underserved. My motive was that prehaps some European Toriphiles may have heard wind.. may I remind you I do not have MTV to start with so I'm at a big disadvantage. Get down off your high-horse. None of the information I have seen diseminated has alluded to a European MTV airing of Tori Unplugged. Since Richard and Missy Caldwell and/or Greg Burrell are pretty much on top of things regarding Tori news no matter what the continent, I've just been assuming that no news has meant there's no news yet. (I didn't see your original posting, else I would have replied sooner -- apologies from this quarter.) MTV Europe has been known to pick up the American version of Unplugged for rebroadcast, and seeing as Tori is very popular on the other side of the pond as well, I would be *very* shocked if they didn't pick this one up too. However, I have also noted in the past that it usually takes quite a while for that to happen, so some patience may be in order. I would imagine that they may wait for Tori to swing back through the region to air it, but that is just a wild guess. I'm confident that the minute Tori's management knows anything about an MTV Europe broadcast of Unplugged, the news will be spread far and wide all over the Net by the lovely folks at Really Deep Thoughts. As much as it hurts, it looks like you're just going to have to wait and see. (But hey, you got the Dew Drop Inn Tour before we did -- fair's fair. ;>) Meredith meth@delphi.com ------------------------------ From: MATH TRIED ERR Date: Wed, 26 Jun 1996 20:55:40 -0500 (EST) Subject: primetime live (of intersest to US folks only, alas) Hi! So the updated listing for tonight's Primetime Live on ABC has no mention of Tori (unless she's part of the scheduled segment on treatment centers for musicians with drug problems ;). I'm going to watch anyway with VCR ready, but it doesn't look good. Hopefully this is just a case of eMpTV syndrome, and ABC has no clue what it's going to be showing later on... Unplugged last night was pretty good -- much better than Crossroads, imho. Tori looked *stunning*, they miked her perfectly (not sure if it was our cable system or what, but Crossroads sounded horrendous), and the camera work was better than expected, considering it's MTV. I'm bummed they didn't show "Honey", though -- I would have much rather seen that than "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", which is *not* one of my favorite songs (and I don't think Tori does much to save it, either). Oh well -- now I have a video of the live version of "Caught A Lite Sneeze" to pull out and swoon over whenever I want. :) Maybe if someone out there has a quick and easy way of converting NTSC to PAL they can speak up? There's so much video out there from this promotional tour, it may be worthwile to discuss a tape tree of some sort so everyone on the list can enjoy what we're talking about here. Just a thought.
