Well, there will be a few of us at the New Haven show after all. Maybe those of us who are going can make plans to meet up a bit closer to the date? Sis responded> >::: Ms Amos, a fan of The Sex Pistols? Yes, I do believe the "Pretty vacant" shirt Tori is wearing in that picture is a Sex Pistols shirt. That's certainly a genre of music she appreciates, even now. She did a guest-DJ bit on the radio station K-Rock in New York when she was here in February, and she played a wide variety of stuff, including Tool, Nine Inch Nails, and older stuff like Billy Idol and Blondie. (She also played something from Kristen Hersh's stunning album _Hips and Makers_, and said that during the UtP tour, she didn't go on stage without listening to that album. Makes sense to me!) >::: But i do, and yours too. You say it already yourself: a life is >a life, no matter the age of the victim. Please tell me (privatelly?) >why it cuts _you_ closer to the bone. [Maybe it cuts closer to my >bones too (this doesn't matter), but i try to relativate that >feeling, otherwise i would act hypocrite.] I guess it cuts close because little kids are pure innocents, and haven't had a chance to live at all. They haven't had a chance to do anything that the universe might want to get them back for. And I guess it cuts *me* close because I know what it's like to lose a family member under the age of 5. Richard inquired about "Bells For Her": >I too am amazed to hear it was a one-take; if anyone knows more about how >she did it, I'm eager to find out... - did she write down the lyrics >and then formulate the song from them in one take? I can even imagine her >"incubating" the poetry one night, and recording it the next day from >memory, as some of the old poetry and stories were created in cultures >where oral tradition was primary. The real story is somewhere in between both possibilities. :) She had this song "incubating", if you will, for a few days, but it wasn't ready to come out yet. Meanwhile, Eric had found this old piano that a local church was throwing away, and was fooling around with it to see what it would sound like if he tuned it an octave lower than it was supposed to be. He finished toying with the piano, and they both figured it may come in handy sometime, and left it alone. A few days later Tori woke up early in the morning and knew she had to get the song out right then. They had everything set up to record (just for situations like this), so she went to the prepared piano and "Bells For Her" came out in one take, both music and lyrics. (Luckily, Eric had remembered to hit "record" :). She relearned it, music and lyrics, for the tour. Disgusting, isn't it? :> Lucy wondered: > Hi! I was wondering if any of you had any advice on getting backstage >passes to a Tori concert. Would I go through the theatre it's at, or what? >Some of you sound like experts on the subject, so I hope I can get a little >help! I would appreciate it so much! Do you have what Tori's people would consider an "official" reason for wanting to be backstage (i.e. are you with the press, a radio station, etc.)? If not, my advice is don't bother, because you're just going to be wasting your time. Even if you do, you'll probably be wasting your time. While Tori would love to hang out with every single person who comes to every single one of her shows, she's (wisely) surrounded herself with folks who realize how impossible that is, and who are *very* concerned for her health and safety. Basically, the only people who I imagine will be getting backstage will be people from the venue, people from the radio station that's sponsoring the show, and maybe people who have won tickets and backstage passes from said radio station. If you know someone who works at the venue you might be able to work something out, but if not, I'm afraid you're probably out of luck. :( (If you do manage to work something out, though, please do fill us in on all the details of your experience at the show! :) +===========================================================================+ |Meredith Tarr meth@delphi.com| |Boonton, NJ USA http://remus.rutgers.edu/~woj/meth/| +===========================================================================+ |"Truth is just like time, it catches up and just keeps going"- Dar Williams| +===========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V1 #44 ************************************
