I must admit I was a little perplexed when people kept mentioning "Teenage Hustling". Probably as I don't listen to the more recent albums. Like others have mentioned here, I think the bees were completely without knees. The only reason I'll ever keep that album is Tori signed it for me. I liked ADP more and I must give kudos to anyone that can include a euphonium on an album. The concept was fine, but it just didn't grip me. ADP would probably be brilliant set to a movie based on the characters. On its own, it's just aural wallpaper - it's in the background but you never really see it. The thing about BK is that it actually gave me an appreciation of SW which I never had before. From Nathan: >Brian Cooper wrote: that's smartarse-stat to you. I am tat free. At least you know where I talk out of. > > I'd even suggest Mark is fine where he is as he > > probably has very > > little say in the overall sound of an album. > >Do the terms 'more sonic space' and 'less cliched victim songs' mean >anything to you? Do you really think Mark has more input into the content of songs? Sure, he could be saying, "Tori, that song's too dark, can you sugar coat it a bit? The nasty ones make Tash cry." I will admit to a bad choice of words though. I'm sure he does have a lot to do with the "sonic space", since that's his job. He'd be constantly tweaking the levels to drown the bass out, add a bit of reverb here, a pinch of sustain there and a low-pass filter to take the edges off the dog-bark inducing banshee wails. What I meant was he probably has little input about what tracks end up in the album and their musical arrangement. I listented to TBK on repeat for a long time, but only because it was in my car stereo and I had no money to buy any other music at the time... and let's face it, I was still in the habit of listening to any new album of tori's on repeat... I think by the time that 3 months of TBK was up, I was only listening to Barons of Suburbia, The Beekeeper and Marys of the Sea, over and over and over. And I could NEVER stomach The Power of Orange Knickers - what the FUCK is all this TPOOK love about!?!? If someone can explain it to me, they can have that track off my TBK album for free. Ha ha. Oh yes, I completely love the ADP bootlegs too... I know the Legs and Boots thing wasn't available here, but did anybody actually manage to get it somehow? H. PS - I'm thirding the death of the Rhodes, and also that crappy Hammond organ can go. Would love to see some harpsichord again, but at the same time am a'feared it may impinge on the special place it holds in my heart as it relates to Pele... _________________________________________________________________ Be part of history.
