If the smiley face/whatever indicator you get (I assume you're using Azureus) doesn't go green, it's a pretty good indicator that you're behind a firewall or router that isn't letting the requests through. BitTorrent's default port range is 6881-6889 (TCP); if you're behind a router (most people with broadband will be), you need to forward that port range to your local computer. Firstly, make sure your computer has a statically set IP address. Most home network setups are configured to use dynamic leases or DHCP - have a look at your routers' web configuration screens to see what it's doing. Generally you'll be able to find a section called "LAN Setup" or "DHCP Setup" or something similar -- see what the range of IP addresses it's assigning is going to be. It'll be something like 192.168.1.100 192.168.1.200 - using that information as a guide, you need to set the IP address of your computer to something *outside* that range, but keeping the first 3 digits the same. An example would be: 192.168.1.50 Remember to also set the Netmask, Gateway and DNS servers if you want the Internet to work on your computer :) (Usually 255.255.255.0, 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.1 respectively - check the documentation for your router). Secondly, find the section called "Port Forwarding" "Applications and Gaming" or something similar in your routers' web configuration. As already mentioned, BitTorrent uses 6881-6889 (TCP) by default - you need to forward this port range to your computer - 192.168.1.50 using the example address. Check the documentation for your router if you get lost. Lastly, you need to have a look at your computers' firewall configuration (you *are* running a firewall, aren't you?) -- check that it's allowing incoming requests on TCP ports 6881-6889. That should be enough to get your torrents running at a reasonable clip :) ~ z. rales & pete wrote: *snip* > so i am having trouble getting it to work..... i have a VERY slow > download rate, no upload rate, and the little light in the corner says > yellow, and doesn't go green :o( > > i'm trying to download the sydney 7.5.05 show i was at, and will be > might sad if i can't get it to work properly.... *snip* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 May 2005 18:22:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Kate Subject: [oztori] Hello Hi Everyone My name's Kate and I'm new to Oz Tori. Although I think I was a member many years ago but then decided there's no point she's not ever coming to Australia! hehe. I've been a fan for about 10 years i think. I think i was in about Year 8 when i started listening to Tori. I went to both her Melbourne shows. I was very happy cause she played one of my favourite songs 'Cooling' That one has been a special favourite of mine for a while. I also had the chance of meeting her which was fantastic! Hopefully she'll come more often now :) Kate Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi Just wondering if anyone happened to take a picture or film of me with Tori at the Melbourne Tori in store appearance. I was maybe about the 10th person to go on. I have glasses, dark brown hair tied up in a clip. I was wearing a white rain type jacket with furry colar, and sort of flarey blue jeans. Thanks Kate __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Read only the mail you want - Yahoo!
