Zippo until suddenly this massive influx. I'm about to register a new domain so I guess I can go back to things being tidy again, but maybe I'll refrain from signing up to oztori through the new account. Use my hotmail one, as if that's not already inundated with spam just through the simple fact of it being a hotmail account. :-/ As for it being an LJ thing, my email's hidden on LJ and it'd still happened about the same time as you guys. Dan, presumably you only use that email account for oztori and that's why you're assuming it's something to do with this list that's spawning the problem? Glad you mentioned it now, at least! Purty and twinkly! :) I can't believe I still after maybe a few days rest here and there have TOAL on 'rotation' in my car!! I'm not tired of it AT ALL! I even have room for Mary now - the 'new' version just needed to grow on me. The ending is good. Snow Cherries is fantabulous. I have a new love for Cornflake Girl - I believe it's better than the original. I'm deeply inlove with Winter and Tear In Your Hand atm. I really like Angels - that Southern twang she has is funny :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 00:18:40 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: Re: [oztori] Spam? The spam is from the LIST? How do you know? I'm getting spam - but Its the usual crap. Anything that comes from the list would have [oztori] as part of it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 11:32:50 +1100 From: "Merman" Subject: RE: [oztori] Spam? Glad you mentioned it now, at least! Yeah, I only use this email address specifically for the list, so... its a pretty safe bet that that is where the spam is coming from. It's not a yahoo/hotmail account, its an extra ipriomus one, so... Im not quite sure I have spam filter available... Might have to kill the account and either create a new one, or create a hotmail one for the list... Thanks guys, Merms ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 13:48:00 +1100 From: Jonceski Jasmina Subject: Re: RE: [oztori] Spam? Subject: RE: [oztori] Spam? I believe Nadyne mentioned the fact that the list's archives are viewable by the general public, that is anyone can view all emails sent to the list, this includes the sender's email address. It's easy for spiders and whatnot to grab your address from there and add it to a spam list. Nathan mentioned LJ: If you've got your address publicly listed in LJ, its highly likely you're getting spammed through that avenue. Smoe.org or LJ are not to be blamed for your spam. It's that your address is available to the public. I have strange feeling it didn't and I wouldn't be surprised if we get another email from smoe in regards to it soon. I would do it if I had permanent internet access, but alas, I snarffle mine from work.
