[Stephen Poole Subject: [oztori] more TOAL chart 'success' TOAL is set to debut at or around #33 on the US albums chart. Still - higher than LE's peak there of #54 (though LE went on to sell 2 million as it hung around for aaaages - I really doubt TOAL will do this!). But every other one of her albums there has made at least #12. Good luck to you, Tori. But remember, GH CDs tend to be more consistent long-term sellers than individual 'new' albums ... so TOAL will likely do well over the years to come, as casual fans who want to find out about Tori or want to own one 'token' CD for their collection pick up this instead of LE or UTP like they might have done before. And yes, before you say anything Nayth, I'm aware that this is not a GH/Best Of in the strict sense of the term, but it's a de facto GH/Best Of and will likely be treated as a GH/Best Of by the majority of people who couldn't name Tori's hits much beyond Cornflake Girl and PW (remix) (both of which are on TOAL), and who have no idea that most of her best work didn't make 'the cut'. So don't even. ;-) J ===== ___________________________ www.livejournal.com/~blade_to_ice ___________________________ http://personals.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Personals New people, new possibilities. We'll see how likely this is to 'do well over the years to come' when it plummets out of the charts next week. (SW dropped from 26 to 84 in the UK, and 7 to 25 in the US in its second week - so what do you think TOAL is going to drop to?!) 2. Your theory above *may* have held true if: a) TOAL was an actual 'proper' singles collection; b) A pic at least semi-resembling Tori of olde was placed on the cover; c) It had a sensible name like "All These Years: The Best of Tori Amos"; d) It was released say in 2000 at the latest before Tori's star was truly on the wane. > And yes, before you say anything Nayth, I'm aware > that > this is not a GH/Best Of in the strict sense of the > term, but it's a de facto GH/Best Of and will likely > be treated as a GH/Best Of by the majority of people Um 'you've read me wrong' - regardless of what Tori/her fans uncapable-of-rational-thought may think - - this *IS* a 'best of'. If she didn't, she would have just let them release a compilation and not had anything to do with it/not have fabricated this latest 'concept'. (Although, ironically, she probably would have made more $ out of it had she stayed out of the whole thing.. *bites knuckle*). Not being a sydney-sider, I've never 'eard o' Doug! > BTW, KT Bush may have done it sooner (and better?), > but will she ever do it > again? 10 years + a few months and counting......... Well supposedly she recently finished doing the strings on a few tracks for KB8... but.. *sigh* in a typical Bush-esque 'twist, Michael Kamen (the strings guy) just recently passed away after suffering from MS. You can read about it on some thread (titled something like "Kate has just finished recording sessions for the new album!") on the KB: General Discussion forum at http://pub3.ezboard.com/bthehomegroundandkatebushnewsandinfoforum. > Later, > SP odg change those initials plz!
