I went to the taping of the show :) It was well cool. Last night though...i went to the "musically punctuated conversation with tori" and may i just say WOW. hang on. am finding post i wrote about it on my lj... ok here it is. - ---- and now for something i never expected to happen... ...i saw Tori tonight. Without the band. (and i was in the front row) WOW. I was one of the few lucky people to get a ticket to the "Thoughts of a Librarian: A Musically Punctuated Conversation with Tori Amos" and i have to say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was moderated by Lucy O'Brien (author) and she basically led Tori through an interview-esq conversation (Lucy asked questions - Tori gave very long and in depth answers, but it was a conversational style), then Tori played 3 songs (Angels, Jackies Strength and Winter) then there was more "interview" with Lucy. Tori talked about the process of writing a song, how Seaside took about 10years to write, her life in England vs America, her opinion on the state of the world/Bush - everything. It was a brilliant conversation to be given the chance to listen in on. Then she played 5 more songs (Silent All These Years, Take To The Sky with I Feel The Earth Move improv, Seaside, Pretty Good Year and Cooling) and did her little bow and left. Angels was beautiful live. I've only listened to that song a few times (being so new and all - and i didn't want to listen to it on a dodgy quality mp3 so i waited till i got the CD) but live the lyrics really struck me. It's such a politically charged song! She mentioned (while she was talking about the song/Bush) that she was amazed to watch how so many people were virtually brainwashed into believing that Bush was/is doing the right thing, that they all believed they were hearing the truth - not just want they were being spoon-fed, and that theme comes across so strongly in that song. Jackies Strength was pretty :) It's never been a huge favourite of mine, but it was nice to see her do it :) Quite frankly she could have sat there and sung the theme to Home & Away (only australians/uk ppl will know what i am talking about) and i would have been happy! Winter - well - i mean - it's Winter isn't it? It's the song that made me cry the first time i saw her do it in January and it choked me up again tonight. So very pretty :) I always love listening to the piano intro's too... Silent All These Years - as above really :) Just divine :) Take To The Sky/I Feel The Earth Move - was AWESOME! So very very cool! when she started the whole improv at the end - i was bouncing up and down in my seat i was so excited! Seaside - after hearing the whole story about this song it really made me appreciate it a lot more than i ever had. I was sooo glad she included it in the set - even though it would be one of the last things i would think of as something i'd love her to play... Pretty Good Year - always has been and always will be one of my favourite Tori songs, so i was just in heaven at this point... Cooling - perfect way to end. I'd have to say it's also one of my favourites... so yeah - i was insanely happy tonight!
