So I'm listening to some live Tori - and it again strikes me how FUCKING BADLY ANNOYING the screaming is!! It's rediculous. I mean in one track Tori's getting into IIEEE and the samples stuff up... and tori sings she needs to find another song and starts Precious Things... screaming... then the band starts... screaming... then the piano riff starts... screaming... then the lyrics... screaming... then the chorus... screaming... bridge - screaming... and then little pockets of screaming throughout the 'risque' lines "so you can make me cum, that doesn't make you Jesus"... big scream BLOODY HELL - not having been to a concert I don't know - but listening to it it is so unecessary. Are there really little pockets of people who don't get the song at all these stages... the final bar "oh scream it's precious things!!" guh! end rant ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 23:46:50 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: [oztori] John Evans - porn music bassist? Now I'm listening to "Scarlet's Walk" live... and the start of it has just drums and bass - it hasn't got the same desperate feeling as it does on the album... and the bass with it's slides sounds like some sort of porno film music!! No caton there any more to fill out the wacka-wacka guitar part! :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 00:57:57 +1000 From: Zac Ariel Subject: Re: [oztori] Andrew is my Bitch Andrew RAYFIELD wrote: > Well Nathan, Telnet/Pine is a bitch. nonsense. pine is a wonderful mail program :) z. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 01:28:30 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: Re: [oztori] can we change this title!?! It is quite funny when I use it at uni - cause no one knows what it is - LOL! Tori starts playing and some guy does this great big long whistle... and Tori stops... she asks Marcel who it was... and to send him to her dressing room! LOL! Who is Betsy Collins - Tori said she thought she was having a visit by Betsy collins! LOL! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 01:35:44 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: [oztori] why no CALS reguards that long interview promo press thing of Tori's that we were discussing last week - does anyone thing that maybe the reason we don't have CALS on the new 'anthology' is that she couldn't find the master tapes... that someone probably has them propping up a collection of Oprah magazines somewhere!?! Delerium took that drum loop a few years ago - maybe they have the master tapes! :) Why would Tori or her management or East West/Warner keep such bad tabs on the master tapes of Tori's stuff!?! Does that mean someone out there probably has the original master tapes for Y Kant Tori Read stuff!?! :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 22:14:30 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan "®" Subject: Re: [oztori] why no BALLS AndrewR wrote: > reguards that long interview promo press thing of > Tori's that we were > discussing last week - does anyone thing that maybe > the reason we don't > have CALS on the new 'anthology' um there wasn't an 'old' anthology andrew (though 'strictly speaking', one could argue that "New Music From Tori Amos... Is Coming Soon" and "Retrospective: The Benefit For RAINN" count as previous 'anthologies' if one were to side with the likes of Julian in arguing that a 'single' now only has to be a song that radio are asked to play, and not one-that-you-can-buy/shoplift-in-the-stores). LOL though by that line of reasoning, TOAL would be Tori's "Greatest Hits Volume 3". *bites knuckle* And CALS was on 'Volume 2' (Retrospective). > is that she > couldn't find the master > tapes... that someone probably has them propping up > a collection of Oprah > magazines somewhere!?! But that doesn't make sense b/c Pro Widow, Mr Z & Weigh-Down were recorded during the same sessions, and hence, one would assume, are likely to be on the master tape. > Why would Tori or her management or East West/Warner EastWest are now defunct (& have been since some time 1998-ish) One could also argue that Atlantic & Epic might as well be officially declared defunct given their performance with Tori to date :P > keep such bad tabs on > the master tapes of Tori's stuff!?! Tori's too busy contemplating her Cherokee heritage, her shoe collection, and the actions of the White House these days, etc. to be bothered with trivial pursuits like her actual music :) > Does that mean > someone out there > probably has the original master tapes for Y Kant > Tori Read stuff!?! :) Yes and somebody (Michael Narada-Walton, we presume) also has her recordings of unheard classics such as "Rub Down", "Skirts On Fire", and "Jailbait". If only Tori had 'reconditioned' some of *these* gems for TOAL! > So I'm listening to some live Tori - and it again > strikes me how FUCKING > BADLY ANNOYING the screaming is!! It's rediculous. IHWYS ("I hear what you're saying", for the ignorant). Although it would be especially annoying for you, making Tori's music harder to hear with your auditory processing deficits ;) > I > mean in one track > Tori's getting into IIEEE and the samples stuff > up... and tori sings she > needs to find another song and starts Precious > Things... screaming... then > the band starts... screaming... then the piano riff > starts... screaming... > then the lyrics... screaming... then the chorus... > screaming... bridge - > screaming... and then little pockets of screaming > throughout the 'risque' > lines "so you can make me cum, that doesn't make you > Jesus"... big scream > > BLOODY HELL - not having been to a concert I don't > know - but listening to > it it is so unecessary. Andrew, it's because she only plays to Americans these days that we get all the 'screamers' like this. And maybe b/c she for some reason appeals to a younger audience these days than she did in "the early years". > Ok I'm listening to one of the live recordings of > the singles - of Upside > Down live in '98. Gawd her voice is awful on those TVAB live b-sides (except Famous Blue Raincoat). > Who is Betsy Collins - Tori said she thought she was > having a visit by > Betsy collins! LOL! It's Bootsy Collins. He was some 70's/early 80's funk-maestro I believe who wore outrageously colourful clothes etc. He was also the 'third' member of Deee-Lite (they of "Groove Is In The Heart" fame) - ie, not Lady Miss Kier (deee-groovy!) or the Japanese DJ, Towa Tei. > and the bass with it's slides sounds like > some sort of porno film > music!! I end this email with the question for you Andrew, "How do you know what porno film music sounds like?"
