Whether this was meant as a joke or not, I absolutely agree with you Nathan! Since my first listening of SW I've thought that all was not well in the House of Hawley. I mean, if Your Cloud isn't about them then where did all that emotion come from? Has Tori ever mentioned anything about the songs for SW coming from personal experience or does she claim that they are all about 'Scarlet' and 'her' experiences? Just curious.... Honestly, I think they should have let us pick the tracks (a la Bjork) ... a recent poll on @forumz of her 'best' songs produced a pretty decent list that would have satisfied us EWF, while at the same time being an appealing collection for newbies and the "Tori curious" ... It was mean as an 'exaggeration', although I wouldn't be surprised if there was an element of truth there. Either that or Tori is seriously bored with her career maybe? She hasn't really had 'a break' in a long time... Maybe she needs to 're-charge'? > Since my first listening of SW I've thought that all > was not well in the > House of Hawley. I mean, if Your Cloud isn't about > them then where did all > that emotion come from? I know and isn't ASF still about Eric? Surely you'd think something was a little strange if your wife was still writing songs about her ex-bf 4 years into your marriage. Either that or the well for fresh song ideas has dried up. > Has Tori ever mentioned > anything about the songs > for SW coming from personal experience or does she > claim that they are all > about 'Scarlet' and 'her' experiences? Soon we'll have "yes, she said" ;) Simon Metcalf wrote: > But would anyone buy the album if it was just a > compile CD?? Um isn't that ****THE POINT*** of a greatest hits (sic) collection?!?!?!?! And Simon, "wake up to yourself" - it *IS* a compilation?! > They need Tori's fan base to want it > or else it won't sell much, only to those that may > have a slight leaning to Tori and have never bought > any of her other albums or singles. That is generally the point of best-of's. Sadly, this collection will likely be the first port of call for 'newbies' who, eg. in 10 years' time from now, pick up TOAL out of curiosity, or because it's going for $3 in their local bargain bin. So they will then be lead to believe that somehow Mary, Sweet Dreams, and Mr Zebra are her 'best'. Julian Pin-Up wrote: > Honestly, I think they should have let us pick the > tracks (a la Bjork) ... That is stupid though, because all the tracks on Bjork's Greatest Hits were singles! That's like saying "ooh let the casual fans pick what they want on Kylie Minogue's Greatest Hits so as to make them feel as though they had any say in it...". Yeah, but that's because Bjork -- in stark counterpoint to Tori -- actually releases most of her best work as singles ... I mean maybe no-one told Bjork that you're supposed to attract fans by putting your worst foot forward??? If I had to pick the best songs off Homogenic, for example, it would be: Joga, Bachelorette, Hunter and maybe Alarm Call ... and the singles for Homogenic were, *gosh*, Joga, Bachelorette, Hunter and Alarm Call. What *was* Bjork thinking?? And Bjork's GH wasn't a *strict* singles compile ... the unpopular It's Oh So Quiet and Alarm Call both got snubbed, for example. (Though I love the latter, and think the former has a lot of charm, despite also being annoying ... ) And yeah, the voting on @forumz (sorry still can't find it) ended up selecting a lot of singles anyway (Spark, Winter, CALS, PGY etc) but also a few really cool interesting choices (eg Blood Roses, which I would LOVE on a compile, and the love-it-or-hate-it Siren). What the new "MAY-RAY" is about!!!!!! (see inside for details!) 1. To deal with my sensational headline: May-ray is actually Tori slang for "my andrew rayfield"!!! ie, "M' A-Ray"!!! Yes, even though I prefer singles-only for hits compiles, these 2 tracks would be great on there.
