Yup. So 'rare' in fact that 11 years after its release, you can walk into just about any major CD store in a capital city in a country on the other side of the world from Tori - a country to which she has not been in 9 years' time - and buy it on a "Limited Edition" (sic) CD single for the measely sum of <$15 brand new. Both of you make good points, but I really don't think that you can compare the extent of Sweet Dreams' "over exposure" (if any) to that of Cooling. Apart from appearing on a 'rare' 'UK only' 'Part 2' single (that, again, is still readily available at your local Borders), Cooling has found its way onto an 'offical' album (albeit, in its live form), as well as featuring in a number of television and radio performances (including Sessions at West 54th and many more, a full list of which I can provide when I get home), being on the setlist for TWO attempted 2003 DVDs (even though both seem now to be dead in the water), and being performed during the Roadside Cafe at most of the shows on the 2002/2003 tour (and plenty of times during Secrettime on tours before that). Compare that to Sweet Dreams, which more or less disappeared off her radar, only to be resurrected during the SLT, and to be 'banded up' for a few shows this season. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer Cooling to Sweet Dreams. But face it, Cooling (along with Leather and China) are becoming (or have become) the bad jokes of the EWF community. Which is kinda sad. They're none of them bad songs. Yes, even China. J ===== ___________________________ www.livejournal.com/~blade_to_ice ___________________________ http://search.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Yet alot of ppl still foolishly believe that Sony are doing a better job with her than Atlantic. > and being performed during the Roadside Cafe > at most of the shows on the 2002/2003 tour (and > plenty > of times during Secrettime on tours before that). a) I think it was actually spelled "Secretime" - go look at your Bliss single. b) I hate the names Tori gives to her solo segments - "secretime" and "roadside cafe". They're nearly as bad as Mariah's album titles - ie, Butterfly, Rainbow, Charmbracelet, Glitter, Music Box... lmfao. Mariah-Ellen, anyone? > Compare that to Sweet Dreams, which more or less > disappeared off her radar, but did anyone notice/care? ;) > only to be resurrected > during the SLT, and to be 'banded up' for a few > shows > this season. I (gasp) actually don't mind the one live mp3 of it with the band I heard from this year. I think it's because: a) the song already had a 'band' in it, so she didn't have to butcher anything needlessly in the process; and b) the song kinda sucked in the first place, so she couldn't have 'ruined' it really. > Don't get me wrong, I much prefer Cooling to Sweet > Dreams. But face it, Cooling (along with Leather and > China) are becoming (or have become) the bad jokes > of > the EWF community. Which is kinda sad. They're none > of > them bad songs. Yes, even China. "I think the trouble" with China & Leather being played live all the time still is: they're from her first album, and they're not even the best songs from that album - she has another 6 (if you include SLG) albums' worth of material + all the b-sides to draw from, yet she still sticks with these 'safe' options which quickly become boring. It'd be like if Kylie Minogue (lol.. wte) kept doing some of the more dud tracks from her debut album which weren't even singles live. WHO would have a bar of it?! And that includes all > the other ones > you just listed here. Who the hell approves this > shit and how do > they get around laws about drug use in the > workplace? You raise some good points for discussion, Becc. First allow me to address your query by revising the releases of Carey's career, for the benefit of those whom might not be as thoroughly acquainted with her body of work as you or I. Mariah emerged onto the international music scene in 1990, with the release of her eponymous debut album (for those without arts degrees, 'eponymous' is a fancy word for 'self-titled'). Mariah's sophomore album followed swiftfly after in 1991, titled "Emotions" - a name shared with the lead single. Marah then took a sabattical of sorts, although a live "Unplugged" release captivated a large audience throughout the world in 1992. Returning in 1993 with the #1 smash, "Dreamlover" (note: single compound word title), taken from her highest-selling album to date, "Music Box" (note: cutesy-wootsy title). "Merry Christmas", a collection of Christmas songs, followed in 1994 to cap off what was a mammothly successful year for Carey. Nineteen-ninty Five saw the release of the "Daydream" album (note: single compound word & cutesy-wootsy title), with the leading upbeat single, "Fantasy" (note: first single from single compound word & cutesy-wootsy-titled album is a upbeat track, as with the previous Music Box and Emotions releases). Returning after a two-year break, 1997 saw the release of Mariah's "Butterfly" (note: single compound word, cutesy-wootsy title) CD, lead by the track "Honey" (note: single-word upbead first release, a la Emotions, Dreamlover, and Fantasy). Nineteen-ninty eight saw the release of Mariah's first retrospective, "#1s" - a collection of her #1 singles in the US up until this point. It should be noted here that Mariah was the only artist to have a #1 single in every year of the 1990's in the USA. A new album surfaced in late 1999, called "Rainbow" (note: single compound word, cutesy-wootsy title), lead by the upbeat, single-word (and also a compound word!) track "Heartbreaker". The relatively-unsuccessful "Glitter" (note: single word cutesy-wootsy title) followed in 2001, lead by the track "Loverboy" (note: upbeat, single-word first release from an album). Both were taken from Mariah's movie debut, "Glitter". Two-thousand and Two saw the release of Mariah's latest album, "Charmbracelet" (note: single word cutesy-wootsy title), lead by the single "Through the Rain" (er, this was actually a ballad, and broke the 'lead single has one-word title and is upbead' rule observed in Mariah's previous releases). So, in conclusion, it appears that the majority of Mariah's album-titles are single compound words, and/or single words of two-syllables; and are somewhat 'cute' in their themes. Similarly, the leading release from all of her studio albums bar her eponymous debut (Vision of Love) and her most recent 'effort', Charmbracelet (Through The Rain) have been songs with single-word titles, which are comparatively 'upbeat' by Mariah's musical standards.
