I dont know if they edited it or not, I haven't got the magazine yet.... Hello Sain Great magazine, and it focusses on a lot of different kinds of music, which keeps me going back to read each issue. I'm wondering where stories on the great female artists are? I'm not talking about Britney, Christina Aguilera, Pink or Kylie - though I don't discount their music. I'm talking about the truly great, genius female artists that have hardcore fan followings but don't really get too much coverage in the 'popular' magazines. I'm talking about Tori Amos (the piano-playing Goddess), Fiona Apple (eg. where the hell is her next album?), Sarah McLachlin, PJ Harvey, Danielle Spencer (in all the Russell Crow hype, most people don't even realise that she has a fantastic album out!) and Bjork, just to name a few! Tori Amos, for example, released her eight album last year, 'Scarlet's Walk'. It was reviewed in a few magazines, but mostly by somebody who listened to one or two songs from the album and put it down in the 'sonic journey, more female angst pop/rock' category. OK - that's fine. My real worry is that it has been almost ten years since her last tour to Australia, however the USA has been toured by Tori for every tour in that time, and usually twice per tour - which amounts to several hundred shows in the USA. I'm positively salivating for her to tour Australia again.... but nobody has heard of her! Or everybody remembers her for 'Cornflake Girl'.... that was released in 1994 for god's sake! How can we expect a tour from Tori Amos if nobody knows who she is? She is a multi-platinum artist with every album selling hundreds of thousand's of copies. Not to mention her story is one of the most touching, strengthening tales that I've heard from a real artist. It would be so fantastic to see a real article on Tori Amos or any of the great female artists in your magazine... I'd even be willing to pay for my copy of 'Sain'! That's all - have a great day. Thanks Holly Williamson :) holly. _________________________________________________________________ Get mobile Hotmail. Yes you did literally 'discount' it probably when you worked in HMV :) (speaking of which, you *traitor* for having an alliance now with Sanity! Yes, your loyalty turned) > I'm talking > about the truly great, genius female artists that > have hardcore fan > followings but don't really get too much coverage in > the 'popular' > magazines. > > I'm talking about Tori Amos (the piano-playing > Goddess), Don't discount her harpsichord & wurlitzer skills (on second thoughts you can be forgiven for not including 'great' and 'Tori's wurlitzer skills' in the one sentence). > Tori Amos, for example, released her eight album > last year, 'Scarlet's > Walk'. 7.....7. YKTR was credited to 'Y Kant Tori Read', and not 'Tori Amos'. > It was reviewed in a few magazines, but > mostly by somebody who > listened to one or two songs from the album Um maybe b/c of Tori's stupid 'glued discmans' idea - most journo's only got to hear the 6-track sampler (if they were lucky) prior to its release - hence mentioning only '1 or 2' tracks. > I'm positively salivating Can one negatively salivate? > for her to tour Australia > again.... but nobody has > heard of her! Since '94 she's had 5 top 10-debuting albums here - she's not *that* underground really. > She is a multi-platinum artist Her last 'multi-platinum' album was UTP in the US lol. > It would be so > fantastic to see a real article on Tori Amos or any > of the great female > artists in your magazine... Yeah but I say if they'd ever do this it'd be only when she's got some new 'product' out to promote. > I'd even be willing to > pay for my copy of > 'Sain'! ...with your 'sanity' ;) PS: Just being a random 'nitpick', always wuv ya Holz! Now I'll just go through and comment.... and I went to Sanity and picked up 5 copies of Sain, hehehehe. Well, they edited the beginning of the letter - they didn't print the 'great magazine' bit. They just started with 'You cover a lot of different kinds of music...' > >Yes you did literally 'discount' it probably when you >worked in HMV :) (speaking of which, you *traitor* >for having an alliance now with Sanity! Yes, your >loyalty turned) > A fair comment, except that I have never worked for HMV or Sanity! The only places I have ever worked in my life are Beerwah Post Office and Bartercard. I think you're thinking of the lovely Kate Findlay, who doesn't post here too often anymore! > >Don't discount her harpsichord & wurlitzer skills (on >second thoughts you can be forgiven for not including >'great' and 'Tori's wurlitzer skills' in the one >sentence). Huh, do you really think that the readers of Sain or even the editors are aware that she plays harpsichord and wurlitzer (and all the other bits of stuff)? > > > > Tori Amos, for example, released her eight album > > last year, 'Scarlet's > > Walk'. > >7.....7. YKTR was credited to 'Y Kant Tori Read', and >not 'Tori Amos'. > Well, I didn't think that Sain would realise that!!! And just so you know, the editor's comment was: Ed - Goodness, what next! Yes, we agree, it's been far too long (Tori last toured here in '96) C'mon Ms Amos, your fans are eagerly waiting! SAIN featured stories on PJ and Danielle Spencer not too long ago either... Um, 1996? I plainly stated in my letter that it was 1994!!! Can't you read, editor? and the picture of tori is actually fairly large! yaaaaay!
