It's all fallen apart before but y'know there's always that little bit of hope that it's all gonna come back together again and maybe greg will make it and he'll be alright but you're gonna rock in the meantime. it all could fall again but you can pick it all up it could be bright or it could be just someone on a bicycle flying by in the wind with all the stars in their hair ... i just love the opening piano it's so historic and it's SO an opener. and in the middle of it near the end there's her little explosion she goes from the pretty hopeful girl but there's always a sort of endless rage that comes out sometimes and it rocks and then it's gone again because it's not completely ready to be dealt with.. the sunny day that can handle the storm... and there's no longer any lipstick on the floor and i think it's sorta someone sitting in the middle of all this pure glass because it's all cleaned up and it's waiting and fresh and new.. Under the Pink was my first tori cd, bought on impulse in sydney when i was like 12... liked the cover. loved the cd. mattyvx. ******************************* my online journal: - http://unspokenthings.blogspot.com "all people who are fat seem to eat alot of chips. knock it off." - Courtney Love ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 20:35:47 +1000 From: AndrewR Subject: [oztori] Last night After my post - I put on Under The Pink... I mean it kills me to see ppl wet themselves over BFP, when there is so much filler on it :) ... yet UTP constantly gets listed about 5th or 6th on ppl's Tori faves list.. which is criminal b/c it's all grand (well bar the horrid "The Waitress" - but even the LP version is 100 times more palatable than any live 'version'). Tori's voice can still reach those high notes, the piano playing is ace, and thanks to Eric it's nicely polished and doesn't contain any 'wtf... Tori did you LISTEN to this before releasing it?!' moments. I don't know about the 'final' chorus, but I love the 'desperation' (or something) in Tori's voice in the last 'you DON'T, don't really mean it' before the 'how many fates' bit... Sounds like such a 'fuck you' to 'the greater source' if ever there was. btw are you new to the list (forgive me if I forgot you after lurking)... if so.. Life story in 50 words or less plz. LOL guess that explain while BFP continues to rank so highly amongst @forumz ppl ;) They will *never* 'move on'. So just reading Nathan's posts about people's infatuation with Boys For Pele - and after me posting my TTT (top ten tori -albums-) I put Boys For Pele at the top. Yes maybe it is angsty and that might be what draws people to it - but for me it's just raw and shows Tori's true talent. No spit and polish - no crap - recorded in a barn. No band (apart from a very stylish brass band). It has a truely eclectic list of tracks. To sum up BFP - it is epic. (No pun intended). There is everything on that album - and that is an album I'd definately put in a 'desert island disc' collection. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 07:47:23 +1000 From: "Maureen Reedy" Subject: Re: [oztori] What Tori Song... BFP 6. TVAB (studio) 7. YKTR 8. SLG 9. TVAB (live) > I'm counting > More Pink as a separate album - cause it's like a > separate album to me and > it's official. I don't think of MP as an 'album' really - prolly b/c I had 8/11 of the songs on it already when it came out :( I stupidly mis-interpreted a music press ad I saw for it (part of the tour ad.. which said "UTP with bonus disc More Pink out mid Oct" [sic, since it didn't actually come out till Nov 14] or something) as meaning it would be BRAND SPANKING NEW songs... and got so excited by the idea... then oh the disappointment when I got it & realised I had nearly all of it already :( LOL I also remember seeing on Video Smash Hits (god bless its soul), Kim Wilson talking about it as an up & coming release.. and said that it was an album of TORI DOING OTHER PPL'S SONGS (yes, I am not making this up), BY ARTISTS SUCH AS DIANA ROSS [!!!!!!! - here I am presuming whoever wrote what she was reading out saw "Upside Down" on the tracklist & assumed it was a Diana Ross cover?? LOL.. Imagine Tori doing that.. "Upside down, boy you turn me, inside out, and round, round". Which.. SHAME ON KIM b/c she claimed to be such a Tori fanatic. Yes maybe it is angsty and that > might be what draws people > to it - I have no prob with 'angsty'.. just 'lack of quality' ;) BFP is a FINE record (well CD) for the first 7 songs.. then it all goes 'pear-shaped' IMNSHO =) Here's why: * MMF - OK lyrics, but tune a little bland. Associating Maynard with this does NOT help. * HJ - see above but lacking OK lyrics. * WD - COOL! Needs to be longer though. * LA - I like the lyrics but the tune's a bit bleh. * T - Like it but the additional instrumentation's a bit 'Hey Hey It's Saturday'-type band. * NTRB - Sweet but a tad zzzzz-some. * AO - A Tori "WTF were you thinking?!" moment. * DS - I really like this song, but it stands out better on its own than tagged after 6 or so songs which inspire my mind to wander. * ITSOHV - Cool. * PTDO - Great. Tho' for some reason when I first heard BFP I was hoping that this WOULDN'T be a single, b/c I thought it would make Tori look like a 'sap' to others [lol if they'd even notice it, that is]. Worth infinity what-1000-Oceans tried to be. In retrospect, it should have been a single. * Twinkle - Maybe nice to hear in a care-free 'gazing at the stars' mood. Nice. But not something I'd rant about. > but for me it's just raw and shows Tori's > true talent. No spit and > polish - I think you'll find there are several moments of 'spit' (literally... ie into Tori's mic) if you listen carefully enough :) > and that is an album I'd definately put in a 'desert > island disc' collection.
