I agree. But I say Robbie Buck's better than Caz Tran. > Case and point - compare each of their interviews with Tori. That's not really such a valid point. I'd like to see anyone interview Tori and be really good at it. She likes to make it difficult. You know that. Especially when the interviewer is someone like Kingsmill. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 05:01:01 -0500 From: "John Lacey" Subject: [oztori] Richard/Dick/Jesus > Caroline Tran is better than Richard Kingsmill. I like Caroline, but I haven't heard her do many interviews, I doubt she'd be shrewd enough to make it interesting. > Case and point - compare each of their interviews with Tori. I never heard the Amos-Kingsmill interview, though I did hear the one with Caroline Tran... although Caroline was pleasant to listen to, I didn't really get anything out of that interview. Tori said things Miss Tran obviously didn't understand, but she refused to push the point any further... the whole ordeal seemed "incomplete" to me. The only people I've hear do good interviews on JJJ have been Kingsmill, Miss Kurnabone (sic), and the woman who does the film reviews... This isn't to say that the others can't, or won't learn how to, but at present I'm not sure they have much in the way of musical journalists. Robbie is wonderful to listen to (and in fairness I haven't heard much of the new Australian music show, so I can't comment on any interviews he's done), as is Caroline. They're very entertaining. I'd love to hear someone really go over some intimate details with a musical act about their work, rather than the superficial "crap" that some media types indulge in. I don't think anyone really believes in the lip-service Molly Meldrum pays in his "go out and do yourself a favour" ritual. (I don't even think Dylan Lewis would show up [to Pepsi-Live] if his band actually was making money and/or he didn't need more of the stuff himself. ;-)) I think we need some musical journalistic talent to rise to the top and become properly embedded in this country. There endth my soapbox lecture. Of course I could be wrong (it's been known to happen), let me know. John Lacey johnlacey@mail.com P.S. I'm happy Dick Smith's "rip off" food business is now defunct; it's nice to know that sort of fear-instilling "Buy Australian 'cause we're fearful we're not good enough to actually compete" propaganda doesn't carry much wait in modern times. I've always thought it was a kind of subtle racism: we don't want OTHER PEOPLE making money, and being happy and successful - especially not non-Australians. P.P.S. I wonder what will happen now that Jesus has, after all these years, finally "come out"... Will a closer look at "Mrs. Jesus" reveal that Tori knew this fact all along? (Especially since they used to "hang".) Will Jesus do his thing at mardi gras next year? Will Priests admit that they got into the clergy because Jesus originally did um.. "come" to them? Perhaps worst of all he will be torn between which "persecuted minority" he will associate himself most closely? Meanwhile how will tell his [in American accent] Dad? - -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 07:37:51 -0500 From: "John Lacey" Subject: [oztori] No Subject After careful deliberation I've decided not to continue my subscription with oztori. Though my time here has been interesting, I doubt it's been terribly productive. ;-) I suppose it's mere coincidence, but if Richard Kingsmill knows when it's time to move on, perhaps I too should learn. Thanks for the memories. Dear all I think it's maybe best for everyone, and for the list in general, if I leave OzTori as of today. Thank you to all for much amusement over the last year or so, and sincere apologies to everyone that I've managed to offend along the way. Those of you who still (for some strange reason) want or need to get in contact with me, I'll be keeping my clever_tori_reference email account active. Apparently John began to wonder (lol to paraphrase a recent Dannii 'hit' [gasp!]) if Julian was actually a spawn of me. ... and left in an apparent 'hissyfit'.. .to which Julian "so nice it hurts" left in response to the 'fact' (in his mind) that this now makes it 3 oztorians he has apparently 'offended'... of course all whilst under the Nayth-influence ;) (kind of)... and him not liking seemingly 'hurting' people. > Couldn't they just fade into obscurity like Roozi, > Henry, Nathan Cyran, > Nerida Hooykaas or hmmm...
