I am a 'public servant'... says it all really. I think 'servant' is too submissive a term & I don't feel cum-4-table with it... Is the saddest, painfullest little town in the entirety of this ass-ended country. Canberra is a haven of cospmopolitan metropolis compared to this mo-fo of a place. There ARE no interesting things to do here, as compared to Canberra's eight minutes worth. Nobody knows what margaritas are here. Nobody even knows what Chinese food is. All the yokels seem to know about is steak, beef, t-bones, porterhouse, eye fillet, rump, medium-rare, rare, double rare, extra rare, raw, cattle semen, cow-love, cowboy hats, cowboy boots, wrangler jeans, holden utes, country music, cattle yards, and the gloriously overrated Beef Week that takes up so many hours of nothing here. The hottest it gets here is anywhere up to fifty degrees in summer. The coldest it gets is about 20 degrees. I can't tell you how excited I am to be going somewhere it actually gets COLD. I am aware of how hot it gets in summer in Canberra, but if the winters are going to be cold, then I'm a happy camper. In other news, I resigned yesterday, and finish up from Bartercard in 5.5 weeks!!!!!! Wooo-hoo! holly. _________________________________________________________________ ninemsn Extra Storage is now available. I keep getting reminded of how I need to buy a beanie cos it's so cold at night. Need something to cover my head. Historical Festival Records Site to be demolished A Development Application is currently before Council for the heritage listed Festival Records Site that proposes to demolish the existing building and replace it with a six storey apartment block consisting of 92 units and 155 car parking place. The Art Deco building was erected in 1939 at a time when Pyrmont was still heavily industrial but it is best remembered for the unique and historical part it played in the development of Australian rock music. Rock legends who used the building recording studios included Johnny Okeefe, Kylie Minogue and Midnight Oil. Peter Allen recorded I still call Australia Home, and Sister Janet Mead recorded her unexpected international hit The Lords Prayer. President of the Ultimo Pyrmont Historical Society, Margaret Wood is alarmed that the building is to be demolished. Many documents state that the building is a good example of an Interfunctionalist Industrial Building- which is very rare in Pyrmont. Said Margaret. Ultimo and Pyrmont have lost so many historically and architecturally significant buildings it would be a huge tragedy for Pyrmont Ultimo to lose yet another heritage item. Many local residents have fond memories Festival Records, it provided the community with many employment opportunities for entire families and filled the streets with colourful Australian icons. Residents were happy with the previous Development Application that City of Sydney had passed. The developement complied to Heritage guidelines and fitted in the existing Festival Records building envelop.
