Yeah - it WOULD be best to see X1 - I mean get it out for 2 bucks weekly. I am DEFINATELY seeing it again. I don't think I've ever read an X-men comic (I've read stuff on the net about the characters and I've seen the cartoon on TV - but I adored X1. X2 is better! Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) was my favourite - he stole the picture if you ask me. and YES! Jean was GREAT! BUT!!!! Wolverine/Logan (Hugh Jackman) was superb... again. Oh My God and of course there was the perfection that was Sir Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart! And Mystique gets a bigger role. I knew I would have to see X-Men 2 again, even before I saw it the first time, because I went with a couple of friends to a sneak preview screening organised by my local comic shop -- I misread the time on the ticket, so we ended up getting there 1 minut before it started, and about an hour after everyone else ... so we were in the front row in the seats in the far right. I could barely seen the screen. But, anyway ... I actually felt that this movie was a lot closer to the 'feel' of the source material than the last one, although the last one did a good job too. I also like how this time they did an Empire Strikes Back and basically set up the next movie, to continue right from this one (if you're familiar at all with the X-Men, then you'll know where they're going). I'm actually not a huge fan of the comics, but I am a fan of current New X-Men writer Grant Morrison. I was in an X-Men mood this week, so I picked up the hardcover collection of his first year on X-Men and it is amazing. It's kind of written as the new 'punk' (don't worry, it's not punk, but it has the same 'rattle the cages' political feel to it). Very edgy. It makes the movie look sedate and establishment. Actually, it's funny how palatable the X2 people have made a movie that is essentially about overthrowing the racist, fascist, homophobic, religiously intolerant hegemony that is the United States of America. I'm glad that comic books are becoming cool again! :-) Jules ___________________________ He-Man? Rough? Oh and (he's not on this list anymore, so can bitch about him.. "nah"), Mark ("M.T. -Oz") sent me recently a dubbing of Eurythmics' 'Savage' video [has vids for the whole album] which is just wonderful. Annie Lennox was cool. WJP (was just playing): "! (The Song Formerly Known As)" - Regurgitator. Nathan - hyper (after hearing that song!). ===== "I want to be a lawyer I want to be a scholar But I really can't be bothered" - 'Sat In Your Lap', Kate Bush. "For Cris, a quietly-spoken musician, it was a devastating betrayal of a tempestuous relationship which started with a drunken kiss and ended with Sam [Fox]'s foot through a TV screen." - from UK 'Mirror', 2003. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I remember in 1991 they're best of must have been out - and it was always being advertised and every now in then in class someone - could have been anyone would be humming a Eurthymic's song - we'd all crack-up - it was really crazy... one of them was "It's all riiight, baybee's cummin' baaaack" LOL! >WJP (was just playing): "! The former drummer of Regurgitator must live near me... I've seen him at least 3 times at the local newsagents (it's 24 hours) and at the Chermside shopping centre. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 May 2003 12:48:00 +1000 (EST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Julian=20P?= Subject: Re: [oztori] Y Kant Someone Help Natelin AndrewR wrote: > >> Question: Would you like to be Mike or Melvan!?! >> >>Melvin, no? > >Sorry Melvin, yes. I bet his 'other' job was being in a KISS tribute band or something. > Heheheh "Your compatability sore is i (the > square-root of -1 or something) :) I never did *that* advanced maths. I have "Sweet Dreams" and "Why" - and > on Single "Walking on > Broken Glass - live". I've got their best of (yes was '91). Actually they were my first foray into 'slightly left of centre' music (well moreso than Paula Abdul [god bless her tap-dancing stilettos] or whoever I was listening to prior ;). I really like "Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)" (was a single in 1987, but not a well-known one) as it's nuts & the vid is cool.. But otherwise my fave Eurythmics songs are mebbie.. Who's That Girl, Here Comes The Rain Again, There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart), When Tomorrow Comes, Miracle of Love, Shame, You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart, Don't Ask Me Why.... Annie: Love Song For A Vampire, Precious, Little Bird. > >Nathan - hyper (after hearing that song!). > > What have you done with the real Nathan?? You, of > all people listening to > Australian music!?! Yes, but alas it's basically a Prince re-hash, so it doesn't 'really' count ;) > The former drummer of Regurgitator must live near > me... I live in the same street (kinda.. well the one that runs into it & I live on a corner) that Kristian Schmidt (sp?) or whatever his name was from Neighbours (Todd?) lived in when he was 'growing up' [I think/so I've heard]... and I think Guy Pearce mighta lived in it too.
