I am also suggesting that the music > industry has a right to be worried now about what is happening, > especially since the slump in record sales seems to have a direct > corrolation with the increasing ubiquity of computers and CD burners. correlation != causation The slump in record sales also seems to have a direct correlation with the slump in the economy. Considered against the economy, we're buying more CDs now than we did during the last major economy slump (early 90s in the US). The slump in record sales also seems to have a direct correlation with the actual number of albums being released. The RIAA won't admit to this publicly, but the big record companies are releasing fewer new albums by fewer artists. I seem to recall reading that the big labels have released 30% fewer new albums in the past three years than any other three-year period. So the selection of new albums is smaller (and there's only so many albums in the back catalogue that I can buy; how many copies of Wham!'s _Make It Big_ does one girl need?) and most people have less disposable income. But the record companies insist that it's the evil MP3s that are killing record sales. The other correlating factors seem more likely to be causal factors. /nm ------------------------------ Date: 5 Feb 2003 01:40:46 -0000 From: "Matty Vines" Subject: Re: [oztori] Nathan's ass is laughing right off. > Thanks matty, re filthpigmelb, I haven't had the utter kinky pleasure of > getting on that website to view yet.
