["Bindy ." Subject: [oztori] OT: I need some serious tech help! Someone was generous enough to host my website on her server, so yesterday I went about uploading all my site files from my computer to the server. I sort of just "select all" and uploaded them. There was about 110 files all up. I left the process for a bit and when I came back there was a message saying that it couldn't upload a file because the name had spaces in it. I didn't need the file so I just proceeded with the upload. I thought everything had gone fine, so when the upload finished I went to see what the site looked like and nothing came up. I just figured the site wasn't active yet, sent a message to the hostess and that was it. Then today the hostess alerted me to the fact that some of the upload had failed because it was showing 0KB where there should be 3KB or whatever. So I went back and tried to upload it all again, one at a time and still nothing would come up. Whenever I refreshed the server it went back to showing 0KB. My only guess is that I've somehow corrupted the files when that message came up, but how do I get them back? Can someone tell me how I can uncorrupt them, or something? I've tried placing all the HTML under another page name and still that page name registers 0KB when I refresh the server. Any help in this matter would be so helpful. I'm almost at my wits end here. I would alert the hostess again, but she's really sick and I don't want to disturb her all the time when something goes wrong. Thanks in advance for any help. ************************************************ Now Playing: "Love Bites" Def Leppard Please Visit: Under construction "Help, Marge! I've tried two small pictures - but they haven't come out like they used to - i.e. photoquality - even when it's set to 'best quality' now I've noticed over the printing the green is showing up more. Now, is the pixellated/dotty quality of the pics due to a possible low colour ink storage (the light isn't blinking yet) or is there some setting that I have to change in the program I'm printing from??" firstly - you are using photo quality gloss paper, right? 'cause that's the only way to get realllly good quality prints. secondly windows has it's own print settings and your printer software has it's - they may just be getting mixed up. if the ink is out it usually just runs out (ie you get nothing) unless of course only one colour has run out.. now, you have it set to 'high quality' so that's not the prob - you may have the windows (and i think it comes up in older canon software) the option called 'dithering' set to low. this only affects image printouts and basically prints your images out at a lower dpi setting than they actually are to save on ink. i can only suggest going through all of the settings (under Start - Settings - Printers - RightClickOnPrinterIcon - Properties) one by one until you find a setting like this. maybe :) . but it could be anything really - a setting in Photoshop (presuming you're printing in this?) or anything really. changing the ink cartridge can't hurt - those ink level things are always a very rough guide anyway. Jennifer from teapot asks: "uploading stuff" your files on your local hdd are ok, right? ie they're not corrupted? and yes, no web file can have a space in it's name. to your problem, well.. depends on what you're using to upload your files: Dreamweaver etal : have you got "check in/check out" or something similar enabled? this might be refusing to upload your local files because of some weird date thing. A 'passive' ftp program - these have a problem with some ftp servers, the only one i can think of is the built-in ftp in IE but i doubt that you'd be uploading with this ..? :) i would suggest deleting all of the files from the server first, then reuploading them via homing pigeon or a small hoofed animal. octavo-noir.org ------------------------------ Date: 22 Jan 2003 11:15:35 -0000 From: "Matty Vines" Subject: [oztori] what's the problem here boys?
