The band is great! Its nice to have the three songs in the middle solo, but with the band is just amazing! You all haven't seen her with them so you don't know what you're talking about. They so rock. > ACK!! Am I the only person on the whole list who (generally speaking) prefers Tori WITH the > band?? Although Crucify 2002 shows that once in a while a song slips through > that net. Ugh. Crucify this year goes for 10 minutes. But it SO doesn't seem that long, its so funky. See, without the band, Crucify is as boring as...I dunno. As boring as Crucify without the band, I can't think of anything more boring! Except maybe Sister Named Desire. But with the band, its just so funked up, its great! Last night's concert was great too. And I finally got a photo with Tori. So standing out in the lovely english weather (read - really really really cold and windy) does have some reward. And everyone at the UK M&Gs is so nice! Even the American people there! But they're American people who now live in the UK, so I guess it has some affect on their temprament. And Kate & I weren't the only Australians yesterday - there was one girl from Brisbane, and another from Melbourne, both over on big European holidays. Anyways, because I'm lazy, I'm just going to cut and paste the review I posted on the Dent forumz. And you can all not be lazy and look up the whole stelist on the dent if you're that interested. Which I'm sure you all aren't but there you go. "Last night's show was great! The meet and greet was good too (except for the pushing, but I got there early) and I FINALLY got a photo with her. Yay! Howie Day was just too good (more 'on' than last night), and I missed seeing him too (i thought he'd be waiting in the foyer, not out the front of the place!), but he was just brilliant. She played I think most of the requests that people made (I sat next to the guy who requested Bliss...he was MOST excited :D ) and it was just a great show all over - especially nice to hear 'Crazy' solo again (just too beautiful, I'm so glad I got to hear it twice!), and 'China', one of my favourites. And it was good to hear CALS at last - I didn't want to go home without hearing it! Mrs Jesus was really good to hear as well, and so was Don't Make Me Come To Vegas, which is MUCH better live." And I cannot stress how good Howie is live. I taped his set last night, you all need to hear it! The looping and layering he does is just amazing. He totally turns a really nice guitar ballad into a full-band number (with percussion!) and then suddenly presses a pedal with his foot and makes it into an electronic/dance song. Just too good. I bought his CD, but I don't know how different it is...but they were good songs anyways. Okay thats enough for now, xoxo Dan ===== I want a table - no, just for one. But I know you do! All the denters who were writing album reviews reckon that she's drowned out and that the bass is way too much. They all are blaming it on Mark *hehehe* (We know he's good in bed and makes good tea, but he obviously can't do live sound, maybe album sound though).. Do you think that Tori would notice from the stage?.. I wish someone would yell out "Tori, we can' thear you, the band is drowning you out".. and she'd do something about it.. But just don't do it near the end of gold dust when tori is in tears (stupid girl.. you should have noticed that Tori is not Silent All These Years anymore, hence the "we held gold dust (SILENT ALL THESE YEARS!) 'fuck you' in our hands".. Honestly, even if Tori noticed.. It would be damn hard for her to do anything about it.. You can't exactly fire your husband or tell him you think he's crap and someone else better do it.. But maybe he hasn't noticed and if he knew he'd fix it too.. O rmaybe he's just paying her back cuz she ain't giving him any.. *sighs*. Who knows. Hugs,Matt ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Jan 2003 22:55:59 +1000 From: Kate Findlay Subject: [oztori] much tori goodness so last night was the last Tori show. So strange - leaving the theatre was such a weird mix of emotions. I was totally elated 'cause it was a brilliant show and she played such a wonderful setlist - but at the same time i was really sad 'cause it was the last time i will see her and that's sad - but also 'cause i had to say goodbye to all the amazing people i met there. Ben, Alison, Jennifer, Berry, Rachel, Amy, Lynn and everyone else... the show itself was awesome. She played some very cool songs - and she finished the show on Playboy Mommy which is what i asked her to play (not quite sure why - i just really wanted to hear it live) When i asked her she said "hmm...she might come out tonight" and she had this really thoughtful look on her face - so yay! She started with the usual Wampum Prayer and A Sorta Fairytale (and during Wampum Prayer i turned around to these guys sitting behind us who talked the whole way through Howie Day's set and were still talking during Wampum Prayer and said "can you not talk the whole way through the show please" and the guy - who was french - i hate french people - said "calm down girlie" which really pissed me off. Nobody calls me girlie! then after i turned back around he says really loudly "some people are so fucking rude" and i'm like YOUR THE JERK WHO WAS TALKING ASSHOLE!!! but i didn't say it i just ignored him and then tori walked out so it was all good. He kept hitting my chair all night though. I hate french people. (dan thinks they were spanish but i think french.) Every encounter i have had with a french person over here they have been so bloody rude! After ASF she played Little Earthquakes. OH.MY.GOD It was awesome. The whole song was just amazing - but the "give me life give me pain give me myself again" part was completely gut wrenching. Then came Pancake which was really nice again :) Take to the Sky was cool except the audience was clapping along with it which was kinda annoying 'cause you couldn't hear it clearly - but that's ok :) Caught A Lite Sneeze came next. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. It was sooooooooooooo good live!!! the "maybe she will, maybe she will, caught a lite sneeze, dreamed a little dream, made my own pretty hate machine" part was just exquisite... Mrs Jesus was really good too - i can't wait to hear a copy of that again now. It was never a favourite of mine (i still loved it - but it wasn't one of the top 5 kinda thing) but live it worked really well! Black Dove (January) was next - once again - very nice...then came Wednesday which doesn't matter how many times i hear it i will always love :) Just so jaunty! the band left - then she played something i was really hoping she wouldn't play. China. Ugh. hehehe. Dan was having kittens in the seat next to me and i was sitting there really trying to get into the song - but honestly - it just does nothing for me. after that though... Landslide!!!!!!!! The Stevie Nicks song! WOW!!!!!! it was sooooooooooo brilliant! I couldn't believe she played it. I mean - i know she has played it before but still...YAY! Was tres happy about that :) then again she did Crazy solo. SOOOOOOOOOOOO pretty. Again i can't wait to hear that song again now (and the jacket i bought has the lyrics to crazy written on it YAY! hehehe. Only #40 for a jacket. Can we say RIP OFF!?!?!?! but i had to get it...) the band came back andshe played Amber Waves which is always nice. The lighting when she sings "so i went by cause i had the time, and told the northern lights to keep shining, they told me to tell you they're waving" was just beautiful. That whole part of the song is gorgeous and the lighting just added so much to it as well... Cornflake Girl without the guitar is still brilliant :) and the purrrrrr she does is just so damn cute! Bliss was next. It was amazing. So good! I was really hoping she'd do this (out of the other stuff on TVAB this was one of the better tracks) and Ben was so excited! it was so cute :) Don't Make Me Come To Vegas was nice but not a highlight. Still very good though :) Hotel. The second Matt started on the drums i realised what it was and turned to Ben and Dan all excited and they were looking very confused - they had no idea what it was and i'm like IT'S HOTEL!!!! but not speaking so the couldn't work out what i was saying. It wasn't until Tori started playing that they realised and both jumped up and down in their seats :) "give me more" part sounded like she was singing in a cathedral - it sounded awesome!!! and the "where are the velvets" bit was sooooooo cool. It's such a "dirty" sounding song. Not dirty as in lyrics - just the base line and the drums and everything sounds really...i dunno - dirty is the only word that comes to mind. It was brilliant! I Can't See New York was so much better than the night before! I loved it once again and the lighting in the "circling down through white clouds" part was just beautiful! When the band kicked in it was really strong - whereas the night before i thought it lacked a bit...so very very cool!!! She ended the main set on iieee again. It gets really heavy towards the end...the whole "just say yes you little arsonist" part absolutely rocks! and again - the lighting in the "with your e's and your ease and i do one more" was very very cool! As soon as the song finished we jumped up out of our seats and rushed down the front. We got there just after this guy who - i kid you not - was as big as Hagrid from Harry Potter!!! He was HUGE! I didn't even come up to his shoulders! and he just stood right at the end of the aisle and no-one could see past him! I managed to get to see around his arm but sometimes i had to stand on my toes and hope :) Talula was the first track for the encore and it was once again very cool :) Then came Tear In Your Hand which i am sooooooo glad she played twice!!!!! during the "maybe it's time to wave goodbye now" part she gave the cutest little wave to the audience :) and the part where she does the "caught a ride with the moon" etc from there was just amazing :) Then she left again and came back and played Sweet Sangria - which by now i just ADORE. It was one of my fav's before i left home - the "yeah you think about that" part is SOOOOOOO GOOD LIVE!!! She finished on the song i asked her to play which was just gorgeous. Playboy Mommy - so very pretty! Howie Day (the support act) was amazing! Apparantly his cd isn't anywhere near as good - but live he is brilliant! anyways - i'm off to Ireland now!!! YAY!!! In fact most were female, thought may have been due to Michael Shanks and Chris Judge being advertised guests... no one was in costume, though one guy had a staff weapon (I just wanted the zat gun) X Lavs PS, I remember the song, twas to his mum ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Jan 2003 14:19:41 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan "®" Subject: [oztori] Mark sucks! Agreed. But it probably sucks with the band too.
