So tell me all the BAD things about Eudora - It couldn't be worse than outlook? Thanks to Zac for helping me with my networking!! :) Andrew *looks for send button* WHY do they have to move these things!?! :) Can I shift that? (re the 'can you use an before a word beginning with h') OK I was lying in bed this morning when it suddenly occurred to me... You can use 'an' before 'hysterical' - ie, 'it was an hysterical show'... and you can also use 'an' before 'historic' and 'historical'... SO.. I've come to the conclusion that the use of 'an' is acceptable before a word beginning with an h-sound where all of: 1) the word begins with hist/hyst 2) the word is an adjective (compare 'hysterectomy' - you can't say "she had an hysterectomy") 3) the first sound after the hist/hyst is a vowel and not a consonant (you can't say "an histrionic personality") YAY... glad we've finally sorted that out. I wonder if anybody else has ever discovered this brilliant rule before ;) If not, don't even think about plagiarising it.. b/c 'all rights reserved' by me & I'll sue your ass :) Nathan. ===== "Look we've established that I was a total wanker at uni so can you just stop mentioning it? (re the 'can you use an before a word beginning with h') Nayth.. There isn't a rule that actually works that people like us (yeah, take it however you like Mister howdydoody) can actually use that's less complicated than maths.. lol.. You just have to say it in your head first and say whatever feels right.. There isn't a rule.. It's like that "I before e except after C" >. Well that's crap cuz weird is spelled weird.. You just have to go with your gut and what sounds and feelings right after speaking for 10 years or so :P.. It's not about complex rules.. And who cares what's grammatically correct?
