Nathan, I think you cringe constantly. Twenty-fours hours a day. Everything seems to make you unhappy. Is there anything that doesn't irk you. I mean, everyone knows how much Tori pisses you off, you're always bitching about her. You're always bitching. Stop your whining for once and just enjoy something. Please. Or, to repeat what Cath said: SHUT UP! But, I was going to say: I beg to differ on OzMusic Month. During the month of November JJJ seems to be playing a wider range of tunes, nothing like "under-produced fusion of guitars & noise with shouted nasally vocals" (altho, you would've heard a little bit of that too). A lot of the artists played as part of the 'new wave' thing (i think that's the name of it) were good! Admittedly JJJ have uncovered a lot of crap, eg, their latest unearthing, 'the bumblebees', just having lived in the ACT for about 6 months I didn't meet anyone who had heard of them. Absolute crap. I think, Nathan, because you say you haven't really bought any new music in a few years, we (the oztori community) should all give you a recommendation and you should go and buy a new cd for yourself and expand your horizons and be surprised by the talent out there. And you know, just to make certain people happy, if they want, we can also make it that none of the artists are Australian. Well can anyone remember the most sublime Melbourne band of the Ninties... called "The Paradise Motel"? Well they got next to no JJJ airplay - probably less than Tori does. They weren't your trad pub rock crap. They were insainly awesome. Their live show was brilliant, Merida Sussex used to have her own microphone - one of those round, metallic 1940's microphones. They were like a weird combination between Portishead and Julee Cruise. They couldn't make any money in Australia... so they moved to the UK... not long after the band... disbanded - something I think it just a blow to music. They were brill, specsh and all abbreviated words in between! As I've said before I hate all those bands - a la The Offspring who churn out that 'fuck the teacher' music to appeal directly to the 12y.o.'s. There is like a whole genre of this CRAP. Australia too... what's that band... Frenzal Rhomb. Brilliant. Mesmarising! (should there be a z in there?) err.. you mean "mezmoorizing"? or maybe "mazmarising"? or "mezmaricing" (a strange, yellow icing - you don't want to smell it though..) :P >Australian music (is this still a topic? i don't remember) what the hell is 'Australian' music? somebody please explain. is it music made by australian person(s), or is it Henry Lawson playing boomerang clapsticks? i listen to a lot of australian music and i can say of most of it that it has never been played in a pub, and will never ever grace JJJ. in fact, most of it is more well known overseas than in this country where the perception seems to be as people have expressed on this list - "music is stuff that gets played at pubs/clubs or on the radio". there are little self-contained communities of music in australia which few local people ever hear of because the artists within these groups tend to release on labels in other countries - Japan, Germany, Italy and England in particular. yes, most of these people are making very eccentric styles of music and that's why few people here ever take the time to discover them, but it just annoys me when people say "austrailan music is crap" and the only australian music they can name is the same old indie stuff, and some po(o)p trash. australia has some of the best music in the world. perth has some of the best 'extreme noise' artists in australia, brisbane has a busy little community of noise and electronica artists, sydney & melbourne have the more technical, classically trained experimental musicians, and also the more mainstream d&b/jungle/(adinfinitum) musicians. All of these people make amazing music and don't get nearly enough recognition in their own country. sorry to go on.. tori is touring here february, right? :) ennui [ 3`n+f ] _ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Nov 2002 21:44:59 -0800 (PST) From: Nathan "®" Subject: RE: [oztori] [ozrecipes] AndrewR wrote: > In the distance you can hear > the sound of the cheer > and the laugh and the roar of the crowd > You can feel the expectation, > and the wild jubilation WTF does 'jubilation' mean?!
