Speaking of crappy songs with slutty lyrics... A friend (Holly's cousin) & I have written a song for Holly Valance (not her real surname!) called "If You Want"... and had a demo recorded in her friend's studio.. hehehe. Yes, the lyrics are total crap, but everyone we've played it to so far loves it! (OMG what does that say of ppl we know). It started as a joke after a few drinks.. and we have also written the song so that it's actually about a girl.. hehee so we could have a chuckle @ Holz if/when she actually sings it for us unknowlingly (though we think the lyrics are kinda obvious in a way once you know what it's about): "If You Want (Acoustic Demo)" - ------------------------------- If you want (if you want) If you want (if you want) If you want, if you want I've been standing here watching you And I know there's some things you'd like to do Please ask yourself are you being true? Yeah but he's from the *Netherlands* so he could be married ;) Maybe Thea is his partner's drag persona? j/k Nathan. ===== "They don't expect boys to pretend to be nice, but they do with girls, and I'm not a nice person!" - Siobhan Fahey. _______________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Plus Tori's also played the harmonium on tour, but that was ok. (just like how Beenie lost the sunset and that is ok too :) > >>The Pool > > >What a way to end a concert! :) > > > > Four words: Oh. Please. God. No. Why? When I went to the '94 Tori konsert (*boast, brag*), a friend I went with joked that Tori'd come out and sing the line "Don't be afraid" from The Pool (as this was the only line we could decipher from it at the time) and then walk off again and that would be the entire show.. hehheh. Well it's more than anythingk Tori's done here in the last EIGHT years. You know, I was really quite disappointed when U2's latest single Electrical Storm dropped from #5 on the charts to #26 the next week--to be replaced by what is by and large utter crap, from what I can see when I wasted 45 minutes of my life by watching the top 40 on Rage one Saturday morning (although I gotta confess if Sophie Monk wants to come round to my place to do a special one-on-one performance of Inside Outside, I won't be complaining). But I just shrugged my shoulders & got on with life--I didn't rush out and buy 1000 copies of U2's single in an attempt to get it back into the top 10. > Plus - it's good to keep her on the radio - even if it is only one song > a week. > Why is it good? I mean, seriously, there is very little motivation for me to give a rat's arse whether Tori gets played or not. If she's dumb enough to get herself signed up to some slackarse record co. with fuck-all PR, that's her problem. I do promotional work for my fave artists only when they are (a) on very small record labels & relative unknowns & deserving of every break they get, or (b) they own the record label & can afford to give out prizes and other bribes in return for fans promoting their music (as is the case with U2). > Cause I asked nicely? > Sorry, I'm afraid I'm bitter & twisted enough to get far more pleasure from torturing you with the reasons why I'm NOT voting for it. ;) > Cause it's better than half-3/4 of the rest of the crap that's on there. > See above re: ARIA charts... > Cause it's just a few finger presses - that most would probably use to > either close pop-ups, search for porn or pick their noses with! :) > OK, I'll be frank. If I'm going to all the trouble of voting on some stupid rigged requests program that I don't even listen to, I'd much rather give my vote to someone far more deserving like Genevieve Maynard or Darren Hanlon or my sister's/dad's/friends' bands. It's not like the Hottest 100 where I might honestly feel that, e.g., ASF is the best song released in 2002, and hence have a motivation for providing Tori with some free PR. And while I'm on the subject, I think there should be an Aussie-only Net50 far more often--then I might actually listen to it. To summarise: Andrew listed a number of reasons why we should all vote for ASF in the Net 50. Henry listen a roughly equal number of reasons why we need *not* vote for ASF in the Net 50. To Andrew's list of reasons to vote I add this one: Decisions as to where an artists tours are made largely based on commercial/financial grounds. Simply put: if it is considered that sufficient seats can be sold in a location to cover expenses and make a tidy profit, then there are good chances that an artist will perform in that location. One guage of whether an artist will be able to sell sufficent seats is record sales. Another is airplay and "buzz". Moreover, the two are interrelated, in that it could be said that airplay/buzz generates sales (which in turn may produce further buzz -- if the work is of sufficient quality -- to generate further airplay and further sales and so on). I doubt it is a coincidence that Tori's mast major mainstream radio hit in Australia (CFG) was contemporaneous with her last Aussie tour. To conclude: a big radio hit would *slightly* increase our chances of seeing her here -- from really bloody fucking unlikely to really bloody unlikely. - --------------------------------- Yahoo! The Hon. Julian P wrote: > Decisions as to where an artists tours are made > largely based on commercial/financial grounds. P'raps. But part of it is up to Tori as well. Can you justify a reason for her doing shows in Portland, Austria, and Italy in the last year (cunt'ries for which English is not the main language) on "commercial/financial" grounds? Yeah, it's obviously cheaper probably for her to go to those places, as they're not that far from the UK, and Aus is on the other side of the world... but I don't think she went there b/c her last album/s have been selling like hotcakes in those countries :) Similarly, if SW suddenly raced to #1 on the ARIA charts here and stayed there for 3 months (lol imagine that?!), Tori's record company couldn't really *force* her to do a tour here... although on a 'commercial/financial' basis it could be justified.. it would still in the end be *up to Tori* to want to ger her ass down here. How many #1's has Madonna had down here, and yet she's only toured once? (and even a longer time ago than Tori). > I doubt it is a coincidence that Tori's mast major > mainstream radio hit in Australia (CFG) was > contemporaneous with her last Aussie tour. Wrong! CG (Cornflake is one word Julez, hence no "CF") was released here Feb 14th '94.... and Tori's first show here on the UTP tour was Dec 2nd '94. Thanks for making me look up 'contemporaeous' btw... > To conclude: a big radio hit would *slightly* > increase our chances of seeing her here -- from > really bloody fucking unlikely to really bloody > unlikely. hehehe. I think the best bet of Tori coming here other than dragging her here ourselves is: if her career suddenly 'dies' everywhere in the world, but miracurously 'takes off' in Australia like.. in a huge way. And then she re-locates here & just tours Australia :) Nathan. ===== "They don't expect boys to pretend to be nice, but they do with girls, and I'm not a nice person!" - Siobhan Fahey. _______________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
