I just went looking on the net for any references to it, and although I discovered some discussions on newsgroups about such a promo, none had posted any artwork or catalog no's that I could back it up with. Like I said, I did see artwork for it several yonks ago (it was another of those photocopier shots), but it could have well have been a hoax, who knows. Like that fake 1000 oceans single artwork that made it to the dent in '99. I may have a bit more of a look for it though to make sure. Gawd the actual 1000 Oceans artwork is bland enough as it is (although I guess it nicely matches the song), I'd hate to see what the 'fake' one was like. > I may have a bit more of a look for > it though to make sure. OK - I sent the message to Ninz on Wednesday morning at 8:30am! LOL! Don't worry. What it was, was a Segment on TV1 - they have those American "Entertainment Daily" segments. Movies, Music, Entertainment, Cyberstuff etc. Anyway they had a bit on The Next Harry Potter film which made me stop channel surfing. Then something about Wallace and Gromit and then TORI!! I went 'oh shit' and hit record. I guessed that it would be on at its usual time of 8:20pm nightly - so SMS'd Nina. No biggy - cause as it happens an hour or so later they played it again! It was really short - it was a bit of the clip then Tori talking about how after Sep 11 people started to talk about America as a 'she' or a 'person' - which the Native Americans have been doing for a long time. Then a bit of some different clip footage with the American voice over saying that she hasn't been 'quiet' since her multi platinum 1992 release - with the relase of 5 other 'critically acclaimed' albums. So I caught it. Can't copy it though - second video (which used to be the good video is on it's last legs - it's like 12 years old now!! Crazy). And don't have a video capture card. It could be repeated - so keep a look out. And here I am - I haven't even listened to the album yet! :) Still not the right time. Maybe SLG has damaged me forever!! :) More Nut-han: The relative 'lack of success' is probably due to: b) Little to no promotion. As someone 'said' online that I read: if you weren't searching/waiting for a new release from Tori, you'd never know it was out. There was some relative 'fan' - i.e. not full on - who I was talking to the week of SW's release and she said "oh I didn't even know she had a new album out!" Oh - remember that Billboard poster - it was covered over with some shite about a week after it went up! AND THE FUCKERS at the Music store that had a heap of posters up - basically large pictures of the photo CHUCKED THEM OUT! FUCKING ARSEHOLES!! I had my name down for them - they didn't even have them up for more than a week. She said "Oh the rep comes in and just rips them down" OH HOW FUCKING ANNOYED AM I!! I wrote another big note - she said She'd ask the rep if he had any the next time he came in - yeah - as if he would - or they'll show him the note or he'd even know who Tori was! Ugh. c) Damage done from 'lack of quality' releases of late (not mentioning names, SLG). Well - public-wise Strange Little Girl got a LOT of Video play on Foxtel... if that means much - I couldn't stop turning on either Music Max or MC and not see it (rarely on Channel Vomit). d) Tori's getting older. She probably doesn't appeal to 'sprightly young things' as she may have once done. Oh yes, what she has to do is loose ALL creative credibility and: 1. Rap or Semi-rap her songs 2. Talk about how bad she hates school and how much she's gonna tell the mofo teach to fuck off!! Becc (with two c's as in CC (the Computer Cat) from Hunter) said about that censorship thing: > And meh, as if anyone under 18 wouldn't just get some older friend or > family member to buy the album for them anyway... dumb! Yeah or... download it! LOL! - The industry is so stupid - don't they realise that is the FIRST thing kids are going to do - well those kids that don't do it already! Or just burn a copy from a friend - that is, again those who don't do it already. So can you really here MUCH of a differencec between 128 and 192? Cause a lot of things I've downloaded are 128 I think - and they're the only copies of such things around. So like if I wanted to burn some bee's that I didn't have onto the one disc - will 128's transfer and play nicely and clearly? If they *snip* nayth, do you actually even bother to open your eyes and read an e-mail before replying to it? right after what you've quoted me as saying, i suggested they might apply some gain maximisation - which is making the tracks all the same volume (that's not entirely true, but it can work out that way). 'remaster' is a word that's too often misused -- what it means is that a highly-paid engineer sits in front of stupidly expensive equipment and makes quite-subtle-but-significant changes to the mix - stuff best described as 'adding some warmth to the bass', 'adding some sparkle to the top-end', 'cleaning up the vocal placement', things like that. the problem with doing all that to tori is that it would significantly change the feel of the music, which i think would be a bad thing. rant mode off. zac - ---- zac ariel; web addict and dsl junkie m: 0414 229 299 e: zac@internode.on.net w: http://www.level21.net/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 10:18:05 +1100 From: Shane Goh Subject: Re: [oztori] GEEKS!!!!! Pretty hard for me to notice MUCH difference when I play a 128kpbs and a 192kpbs mp3 file on my computer speakers. However, whack on some head phones and you will start to notice. Whack on some high quality headphones and you WILL notice. soooo, 128kpbs will play nicely and clearly, but use 192 if you're picky and can hear a difference on your audio equipment. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 09:50:37 +1000 From: "nina riddel" Subject: Re: [oztori] All in ONE >Oh yes, what she has to do is loose ALL creative credibility and: LOSE! My copy of Boys For Pele has an 18+ sticker on the front of it. It says: "WARNING 18+ This album contains explicit language and is not recommended for persons under the age of eighteen" So its obviously something that they have been aware of for a long time now. But i do find it amusing that this album had a warning at a time when i didn't see many others contianing them. I mean this release is from 1996, and even now bands like they mentioned (Eminem, and other nu-metal or bands that use frequent coarse language) dont have warning stickers do they. I always just asumed that it was due to Tori's use of Religious terms in less than traditional ways. And also The fact that her album was stocked by most commercial retailers (not resigned to smaller independant stores). But like i said, there is not a lot of swearing but im sure that many would take her use of religious terms offensively. Just my thoughts, kerrie _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 11:07:47 GMT From: Rebecca Appleton Subject: Re: [oztori] naughty offensive tori On Fri, 15 Nov 2002 11:28:54 +1030, kerrie geier wrote: >So its obviously something that they have been aware of for a long >time now. >But i do find it amusing that this album had a warning at a time >when i >didn't see many others contianing them. Don't they have that black and white "Parental (something) advisory: Explicit lyrics" sticker on them? I buy most of my CDs second hand these days, so don't really know if they're still being used, but I know the more explicit version of the South Park album (which for some reason sprang to mind as an example) had stickers on them. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Sophie B. Hawkins' one that had a song used in 'Dawson's Creek' had the label on it (I vague recall wondering why it did when her previous album also has naughty words iirc). Mmm, must be something to do with commercial expectations. Anything nobody's ever heard of/is independent/etc doesn't need a warning on it cuz no nice little kiddies are going to be tempted to buy *those ones* anyway. ~Becc :) - -- www.crappism.org ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 11:12:59 GMT From: Rebecca Appleton Subject: Re: [oztori] naughty offensive tori On Fri, 15 Nov 2002 11:07:47 GMT, Rebecca Appleton wrote: >'Dawson's Creek' had the label on it (I vague recall wondering why >it >did when her previous album also has naughty words iirc). Um... *cough* I'm really losing my ability to say what the fuck I mean these days, aren't I? What I *meant* to say there was that I vagueLY recall wondering why the 'Dawson's Creek'-era Sophie B. album had a sticker on it, when her previous album had similar words but no sticker. (Well, actually, it did have a sticker, but it was of the "Featuring the #something hit in America, 'As I Lay Me Down'" variety...). ~Becc, hopin' she makes some more sense this time - -- www.crappism.org ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Nov 2002 11:18:04 +1000 From: "Bindy ." It is far removed from her previous offering, 2001's Strange Little Girls, a covers album where she gave a female perspective to songs written and performed by men. The feel of Scarlet's Walk was largely influenced by her college tour of America after the terror attacks of September 11, which gave her some insight in to the American psyche at the time. Amos says her college tour opened her eyes to a change in people. "That means people were telling me things in letters, at the stage door; things you don't say when tomorrow's coming." Her own navel gazing unearthed the theme of the album, which hinges on the Native American notion of the "soul map", a blueprint that shows the route of the most defining moments in our lives. As you would expect, all this introspection has produced an album that is extremely emotional. There is a little of her trademark attitude but more prevalent are songs with heart like A Sorta Fairytale and a collection of delicate, piano-driven songs like I Can't See New York and Your Cloud. Her voice still has that alluring quality and is ever so slightly gravelly at times, and on this album you can actually hear the pain. IN DETAIL: Kid Rock: Amos was considered a child prodigy who started playing music when she was two. By the age of four, she was singing and playing piano in the church choir. Web of Intrigue: Those who buy the CD can enter Scarlet's Web through www.toriamos.com. It boasts that you can listen to bonus songs, follow Scarlet's walk and trace the Native American movement across America. The Soul Map: Amos's maternal grandfather was raised by a Native American, and often told her stories about Native Americans. (Dan: wow... how wonderfully insightful) Further Investigation: See Fiona Apple, Beth Orton, PJ Harvey and Nelly Furtado (Dan: whoa... Nelly?) Article features two pictures... one of the album cover (of course), and that purdy one of her staring out the window/door w/ gigantic protruding eye lashes.
