I tried searching for "The Big Picture" video (like, on KaZaa) but it's not around. Does anyone know where I can find it? My computer has been on over night and shite for ages (something I never did with my old computer). Andrew On a 56.6k modem - although I've noticed that it's connecting at a lower rate each time - it was about 46kps the other day - then 42, today I connected at 40. Is there anyway the server can shunt me onto a slower connection cause I've been downloading stuff (It IS unlimited downloads). Maybe that's how they punish you - or am I being paranoid - and it's just a random connection thing? Although I read somewhere, on thedent.com I think, that somewhere was a pressing of SW with a sticker saying 'featuring ASF, TR, and C(razy)" or similar. What has always struck (nearly wrote 'striked' there) me as unusual about Tori single releases is... that they always release the songs that have the least/none/or subtly in the background piano, or they remix it so it hardly has any obvious piano! - eg, SLG, GOT80s, HJ (Dakota), Talula, et al. Hardly 'advertising' Tori's piano skills then, are they? > so > thatw as confusing... from > the dvd it looks like taxi ride and gold dust are > being flagged as singles, Gold Dust strikes me as an odd single choice - I don't see it being played on radio (er not that any of Tori's stuff ever does get played anyway). > realistically, gold dust (epic ballad) and taxi ride > ( catchy) are possible, > and are my fave tracks too! yay! but taxi ride won't > get a single release > b/c it mentions 'just another dead fag' - i'm pretty > sure it got its > innocuous title after sony execs refused to draw > attention to those lyrics > by allowing the original 'jadf' title... Yes I am very 'suss' that they made Tori change that title. I wonder if they woulda allowed Riot Poof even.. heeheh (maybe they would have though, since about 0% of Americans have even heard the word poof.. or realise that it's "I couldN'T care less"). > anyway, given we still don't have a 'a sorta > fairytale' single in aus, i > doubt we will get any single at all. As much as I'd like SW to do well b/c I think it's a great album... I think it's kinda funny/serves Epic/Sony right at how relatively 'badly' it's doing chart-wise (well outside of the US anyway) given their "the public absolutely must NOT hear a second of this/even know the tracklisting/read the bio" stance prior to its release. Agreed. They would seem to be the most 'commercially viable' of the lot (relatively speaking of course). > realistically, gold dust (epic ballad) and taxi ride ( catchy) are possible, > and are my fave tracks too! yay! but taxi ride won't get a single release > b/c it mentions 'just another dead fag' - i'm pretty sure it got its > innocuous title after sony execs refused to draw attention to those lyrics > by allowing the original 'jadf' title... so i doubt a single is imminent. Actually, I read in an interview that she changed the title when the subject of the song changed (i.e. one guy was about to die and he didn't, so like ya know, he just wasn't topical anymore). Given past song titles Tori has released, I don't think it would have been a stretch to name it 'jadf' anyway. > anyway, given we still don't have a 'a sorta fairytale' single in aus, i > doubt we will get any single at all. the less than brilliant chart success > of 'sorta' in the uk suggests maybe there won't be another single there > either (especially given that album is dead in water)... and the US, well > they don't *do* (god i love ghost world) singles anymore really... no sign > of 'sorta' on the Hot 100 is there!` Tori's singles have performed poorly in the past, yet they continue to release them. Nope. No promo of PM was ever released. You may be confusing it with Northern Lad, for which a 1-track CD-R was pressed in the UK (and which you can buy for around $400 now of eil.com... even though it's exactly the same as the LP version and doesn't come with any artwork other than a plain white title-sleeve.. lol). Amazing they (almost) considered promo-ing that.. with the "fucking" in it and all. re: Taxi Ride > Actually, I read in an interview that she changed > the title when the subject > of the song changed Oh BS. She did claim to have changed the song though from its original incarnation. Although Tori as usual is very inconsistent - she said in a 1999 interview that Just Another Dead Fag was about somebody's light going out.. nothing to do with a "dying fag" as she now claims, prior to changing it about Kevin Aucoin. > Tori's singles have performed poorly in the past, > yet they continue to > release them. What planet are you living on? In the last 5 years in Aus we've only had 4 singles. (Spark, RS, GOT80's and 1000 Oceans). In that time in the UK they've only had 3 (Spark, GOT80's and ASF). The US has had 7 commercial singles in that time.. which even then is only 1.4 singles a year. > The logic underlying this behaviour > has me at a loss, but hey > am not complaining... as long as we get bsides in a > form other than a crappy > streaming download. Well again, since FTCH the only proper "b-sides" we've had are After All & Only Women Bleed (but both covers and on a withdrawn release), and Operation Peter Pan. So we hardly "keep getting b-sides".
