Well, I only really know about the drag king - butch - ftm side of the coin... IMO it would seem that the nature of being a drag king/queen is that one is not actually trying to pass as a gender other than one's birth gender, but deliberately blurring/jarring the lines between gender. Henry: this may sound trite, but I find it interesting the way in which names (in this case 'drag king', 'ftm'), initially intended to describe certain actions/states of being (ie, to facilitate the production of meaning), actually come to discursively conscribe and confer meaning upon those actions/states of being ... our friend Venus has already had his/her politics conclusively determined by eight letters and one small space between them. Let me tell you all a little more about me and Tori. The first album that i bought was Boys For Pele, and to this day it is still my favourite. Blood Roses being my favourite Tori song, I just love that Harpsicord (i think it is) at the start of the song. It is just one of those songs where i fell in love with the sounds, such as the guitar in Without You I'm Nothing by Placebo, and Jeff Buckley's Vancouver. I new of Tori through Cornflake Girl, but didn't really take an interest (i was about 14 or 15 then) But i borrowed a book from the library on Tori, read about her life and fell in love with her without hearing another note! I went out and the first CD of hers i saw was Boys For Pele (an interesting introduction i now realise!). And that, my friends, is about it! Ever since i have been a Tori fan! And about me, I am 22 (23 in about a week), I have studied photography at uni, then worked in a photo mini-lab for the last year. I have quit that job and im going home from melbourne to adelaide over xmas and will be moving to canberra next year where i have applied for a Digital Arts course at ANU. Other favourite musicians of mine include Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey, Morrissey, Manic Street Preachers, Le Tigre, Placebo, oh the list could go on for days. I'm sure you have all heard enough. I disagree with this, along with Zac. There are standards that browsers should conform to, and NN4 never did conform to 'em. It's like saying if some company sells shonky cars that explode without a a certain molecular change being made to the fuel, that petrol companies should change the way they make petrol. The maker is the one at fault, not the people who have to work with the thing, and to say otherwise is to remove responsibility from the entity to which it belongs, and thereby remove any impetus for improvement. Fuck that. In terms of backwards compatibility, the reason you can't always do backwards-compatibility for NN4* is because of its attempts to implement some things, but not do it properly. You can make a perfectly backwards-compatible webpage using a stylesheet, that'll show up as pure unstyled text and images, in a browser that doesn't support stylesheets. Because NN4* half-supports stylesheets, though, it'll attempt to style everything and bugger it all up, even rendering some things completely inaccessible. If Netscape, from what I've read, hadn't released such a good Version 7, I'd still be coming down on them very hard indeed.
