(And just to prove a point about how little record companies care about the value of collectables once they've been bought, Universal decided to re-release the "ltd. ed." of U2's Best of 1980-1990 to coincide with the release of the 2nd volume of said best-of, thus instantly devaluing existing "ltd." copies down from around $100 to the RRP...) It comes in a crappy card-wallet sleeve, the CD is 'clear' rather than painted white on the label side (looks worse if you ask me), there is a black border on the front pic sleeve, and obviously as it is in a crappy wallet sleeve there is no lyric booklet (though they're printed on the back of the map). > I was just > interested to know what Sony's motive was (if any) > for > making it so hard to get... I didn't think 'twas that hard - well over this side of the cunt'ry. I mean, it's not like you could ever walk into a store and see about 8 brand new copies of the "Crucify Limited Edition Live EP". Thanks for that info. Just purchased the Aus version from HMV.com.au (as Roozi said, they seem to have no problems keeping up a supply) so I guess I'll just decide which version I prefer to live with & dump the unwanted one on eBay (or give it to somebody for Xmas). BTW--HMV.com.au is the only place online to have the Aus Ltd Ed still available (although I guess I might get an email tomorrow morning saying "sorry"), if anyone still wants to get one by that method... > > it's nice that it makes > > it > > more valuable as a collector's item, > > Mmmmmmm not really. Yes, but as you just pointed out, the Aus version isn't the same as the US version, & as many others have said, the Aus version is now pretty hard to get... I imagine that record collector-type shops will probably be selling it for around $60-$100 in a month or so, & that eBay will probably reflect similar prices. Of course, market value rarely reflects actual value these days, what with generously-incomed collectors willing to pay a fair bit more than what an item is actually worth just to complete their collection. (& from a seller's perspective, I'm not complaining.) Henry. - -- "We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Short answer: No, Tori's correct, IMO... Long answer: & I'm not just saying that cos I like Tori (in "that way", no less)... A drag king is just a male impersonator, a woman who dresses up like a guy for a show or for fun or whatever, but then relinquishes that male identity once the show is over. Sure, she might happen to be a butch lesbian when the glue-on facial hair & tie comes off at the end of the night (or she might equally be a very femme straight woman--Lucille Ball did plenty of drag king roles) but she's still a woman, just like a drag queen is still a man. Both drag kings & queens are creating a parody of the "opposite" gender--not trying to live their daily lives in that gender role. So drag kings are "she" & drag queens are "he" (unless, I suppose, you're referring to their stage persona--one of my fave drag king names is Elvis Herselvis.) Things take an eternity to load and all other programs take an eternity to do anything and it all finally has a melt down. NN6 is still on the puter though and for some bizarre reason will prevent Photoshop from loading until I shut it down (it 'runs' in the background or something). Right now if I Ctrl+Alt+Del it'll say Netscape 6 is not responding. So, Netscape 7 any better? And whats the latest version on Netscape Communicator (and what version of Navigator is going with it?) that's going around? I'm still on Comunicator 4.74 And nobody be a smartarse and suggest we get a new computer - it's somewhere down on the list of future purchases. I remember being told quite emphatically once that this was not the case... btw please forgive my uninformed questioning ... :-) J Too Much <2much@elvis.com> wrote:On Mon, 11 Nov 2002, Julian P wrote: > > Too Much <2much@elvis.com> wrote: > > >can still remember one transwoman > urging our group to "keep away from the drag queens!") > > > Sorry to take this *further* off topic (or is that put > it *on* topic), but am I the only one who is surprised > that Tori goofed up on GOT80s ... she sings 'I met a > drag king called Venus/she had a velvet hologram/She > said "my husband ..."'. > > Should it not be 'I met a drag king called Venus/*he* > had a velvet hologram/*he* said "my husband ..."'? Really???? *eyebrow hike* Don't get me wrong--I used NS4 continuously for about 3 years & really liked it. But then I was forced to switch to IE (I still don't own my own computer & rely on whatever's going at uni) and after much grumbling found I got used to it. I'm currently using IE5 on a Mac, which is not the latest fad but it can handle pretty much all websites fine (including oztori.org). I recently had to go back to NS4 for something, & I was surprised how many websites don't actually work in older browsers. IMO, that is seriously bad web design, but short of sending lots of emails demanding backwards-compatibility, what can one do except upgrade? I would suggest you start using IE5--unless there is some particular reason you can't use Microsoft products--being slightly older & less bulky than the latest browsers, it does work on most reasonable computers (I reckon if your computer can handle PShop it would be fine with it.)
