But, then, I also agree with Nayth (hey, it happens from time to time), that no-one has badmouthed the album either -- criticism has focussed more on why Sony has failed to properly promote such a strong album, as well as on peripheral details like trinkets and stuff. But, since we all like Tori for the MUSIC (is anyone going to admit to liking her for the sparkly frocks and fairy wings??), then let me say, for the record, that I LOVE Scarlet's Walk. It may not beat out From the Choirgirl Hotel for the title of Julian's favourite album of all time, but it comes pretty damn close (and may surpass it in time as it grows on me). And, yes, I do like it more than the much-loved, mostly brilliant, but also quite flawed Pants for Pele. >I'd just like to state the obvious because it has to be said...Doesn't it >SUCK how Tori keeps skipping us by on her tours:( >If she doesn't tour this time I'm gonna burn my entire Tori collection! >Well actually that's a lie but I WILL cry and chuck a tantrum! The similarity is more in the structural sense. And I think that SW is like Pink in the way each song is presented. They have a similar 'feel' to them, in terms of instrumentation and vocalisation. The similarity is more in the sonic/musical sense. So there, you're both right! Well, I saw Tori at the Seymour Centre and State Theatre in '92-94. The '92 performances were especially stunning, much better than '94, perhaps because all was new then. (I'd only heard a few songs before the shows.) The first Seymour Centre show is still by far the best concert I've ever been to and I honestly don't expect to see such a performance ever again. Unfortunately I became interested in music again after a period of boredom (the 80s...), so Tori has cost me a lot of $$$ in one way or another. Oh, well... Might not still be able to find ticket stubs, but still have the T-shirts, though they're getting a bit faded now! Am starting to think Tori hit her performance peak in '92, and her writing peak with BFP and before, although FTCGH is pretty close. Not too sure about SW yet, but BFP took quite a while to grow on me, what with the rumours about the stories behind the songs and so on. Out of curiosity, what sort of music do the people here like? The reason I ask rarely hear anything on the radio, especially post Jaslyn Hall. Any information, or useful sources out there? If you ask me (and I know you are), I think Tori's big nose-dive in commercial success (albums-wise I'm talking here) in the UK since FTCH has been because - since BFP, she has basically neglected "the world outside of America" (to quote those copyright things), and the Brits don't like that - and Tori started out her solo career in the UK. Just like Kylie Minogue suffered a kind of 'backlash' in Oz when she became more UK-based in the late 80's. It's like she somehow 'moved on to bigger and better things' once BFP debuted @ #2 in the US. And whilst on the topic of "which Tori album can we best categorise SW under?", I totally don't see the UTP connection myself. I think UTP was Tori's best album piano-wise... And as much as I like the SW songs, there aren't a whole lotta moments where I am thinking "WOW @ that piano playing!" Mark "MTGG" wrote: > NTRB... They are considered superior to mp3 format, as the compression used in mp3s is evident to what people around here like to call 'sound queens'. However, the drawback is that they are much larger in size than an mp3 (about 30mb per song is average). While using mp3s to source bootlegs is considered unacceptable by the bootleg community, most traders will accept shn sourced bootlegs. For that reason, bootleg sharing sites like TOMB and tal.org (ie the two big Tori sites) offer all their shows (in the case of the former) or many of their shows (in the case of the latter) in shn format only. So, in short (no pun intended): shn good sound wise but bad download wise as they hog up bandwidth and modem time. Hence my suggestion to 'share around' the burden. Hope that helps. :-) Jules - --------------------------------- Yahoo!
