(julian, is that a you thing? hehe) For anybody in WA, I got it from Sanity Carousel, they had three copies. I got a shoe charm which I think is glamorous. The box is very pretty :) I am totally besotted with this CD, it really does put SLG into the toilet it belongs in (a toilet which far outstrips most other commercial releases from anybody else). I'm a bit peeved I listened to the sampler tracks before hand because it seems a bit disjointed now, the ones I have heard take me on a different journey than the one Tori is trying to send me on I think. . . oh well! They are all fucking amazing, yet to say a bad word about it! Omg, omg, excitement overload! Your Cloud is really, really, really sappy and pretty and just *omg*. The music in DMMCTV (im sorry to use abbreviations like some stupid fucking american denter) is really groovy, love it. Virginia is outstanding. It's shit. Many will never see how shit, either, going by my experience just then. I stuck my original Australian release in the drive, loaded the "ConnecteD" Shockwave applet, and was promptly told that I did not have the CD in my drive. Same response on my CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and CD writer. Hmm, I think. Could it be the Australian release's fault? It seems identical to the US pressing, but maybe Sony Australia left something off...? Nope, official US release still results in the same message. So why isn't it working? This, from their FAQ, probably explains it: "Currently, the ConnecteD site will only work with Windows 95, Windows 98 and Mac operating systems 8.6 to 9.2. ConnecteD does not currently support any other operating system, versions of Windows or Mac OSX." Someone tell Sony Japan (who get the credit for developing "ConnecteD") that Windows XP exists, Windows 2000 exists, Windows NT exists, Mac OSX exists, and tens of millions of people are using them. As a Windows XP Professional user, I appear to be completely denied access to this and any other "ConnecteD" content that Sony feels like throwing out to the masses. So here's the dual challenge: 1. First person to hack the Shockwave applet wins, or 2. First person to rip and post all the useful content on a normal web site wins also :) > Pardon my french. French completely warranted. Fuck 'em :) Sony Music's idea with this, of course, is to encourage people to buy the legit CD rather than settling for a CD-R burn of MP3 files. But by excluding users of the most recent OS versions (and therefore a great many new computer users as well as us experienced folk) they're not doing themselves any favours, and by excluding Windows 2000 users they're pissing off millions more. Great way to encourage piracy of their "special" content, in fact. Is that the sound of a backfire I hear? :) - - Anthony ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 15:11:42 +1100 From: "Anthony Horan" Subject: [oztori] Why "ConnecteD" doesn't work (for technical types :-) I just had a look inside the small "ConnecteD" applet that controls access to Scarlet's Web, and as it happens most of its programming is right there in plain text ready for reading :) The reason that it doesn't work with WinXP or Win2000 is simple - it was written in 1999 (by Katsumi Ishida of Sony Japan) and has never been updated since. It doesn't even know these more modern OS's exist. It should, however, work on Windows NT 4 - there's a "version" string in there that specifically mentions that OS. And as for how it identifies you have the correct CD: it's the good old combo of total length, track number, track times etc etc. A "cloned" CD burn should work as well as there's nothing special about the actual disc. Here endeth the technical waffle. :) - - Anthony ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 15:44:36 +1000 From: "Daniel Nolan" Subject: [oztori] Getting Scarlet's Web to work in 2000, XP This was posted to the forumz: 1. go to http://korntv.com/ConnecteD/ and "Click to Begin" 2. go back to http://toriamos.com/scarletsweb/ and try again.
