Ya know, I found it to be quite the other way around. On an album of 18 songs, I found 5 to be a very nice number to have listened to before getting my mitts on the whole thing. When I know a few, I tend to jump around a lot between those ones after giving it an initial listen, and then bit by bit edging out till I know all of it.
