Actually, the email I got from Epic's Tori list today implies that it's the web site that will "recognise the disc", presumably in a similar way to how a FreeDB-equipped piece of software identifies a particular CD by its track lengths etc etc. They don't say for certain, though; I'm only speculating. No other versions of SW have been entered into FreeDB yet so it's a little hard to compare. :) But there is definitely no CD-ROM session on the Australian release, so if this "ConnecteD Technology" (whatever it is - I couldn't find any reference to it on the web) needs custom software to work, we may have a problem. :) I must say I'm a bit annoyed at the ultra-squeezed-up lyrics in the booklet and the "extensive credits can be found on Scarlet's Web" line. Print 'em in the damn booklet already - it's not like the web site will be around two years from now, after all. - - Anthony ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 00:55:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan "®" Subject: Re: [oztori] McScarlets Walk McMultimedia Julian P wrote: > "This CD takes advantage of ConnecteD Technology. > Use this CD as a key by inserting into your CD-ROM > drive [sounds painful - J] and going to > www.toriamos.com to unlock Tori's secret site "Secret" site??? Tracks: "A Sorta > Fairytale", "Pancake", "Crazy", "Taxi Ride" and "Gold > Dust". It's "authentic" in that it was handed out by Sony promo to the Australian media (and no, I don't know why the sixth track got left off either!) and was sanctioned by them. The Australian arm of Sony does CD-R promos all the time, in an attempt to save money on having full-scale pressing runs done. It's a small CD-R run done by Sony Music Studios in Sydney at the request of promo, as they couldn't get hold of quantities of the US "Selections" CD to hand out. But don't pay $60 for it! Don't even pay FIVE dollars for it; there's nothing special about it, and it surely won't be worth anything much in the years to come. - - Anthony ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 18:01:11 +1000 From: "Anthony Horan" Subject: RE: [oztori] Scarlets Walk multimedia > Kate, I think your friend is just assuming that the Aussie version doesn't have the > multimedia section because Scarlet's Web hasn't been launched yet. I doubt it; for one thing, the leaked MP3 files sound dreadful compared to the CD versions* and were probably done via an analogue input. And secondly, Sony had access to a few copies of the actual US "Selections" disc weeks before the CD-R appeared. I suggest, I suggest this to everyone, (the fact I'm obsessed and therefore biased means nothing!) they should all go and buy something by Genevieve Maynard. She is awesome. Her EP is out now, called The Genevieve Maynard Trio (what a clever title) and and she has her debut album coming out on the 11th November, called Ghost Notes (which I think everyone should buy cos it'll be great!). And if you're in Synday tonight go to Bar Broadway (is that what the place is called?) at around 8pm she'll be playing support for whoever has their EP launch there tonight. In a nutshell you have a super voice, probably the best female guitarist in Sydney (if not Aus, and dare i say producer...), she's kinda bluesy, kinda folk, kinda pop. Anyway, she looked totally stunning, and she "played" ASF, though only the first verse, chorus, and bridge. And i think the piano was mimed ala Cornflake Girl on Hey Hey. She was apparently appearing on the Q Awards after it, ive taped it, but havent seen it yet. love rachael xxxx ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 20:42:48 +1000 From: "AndrewR" Subject: RE: [oztori] pigs in space (still orbiting) > Seems you've developed an acute case of AndrewR-itis > (ie, the no >'s anymore when you reply to things).
