I like ASF more, but they have a similar feel. Kinda imagine Amber Waves with the ASF chorus and you're sorta heading in the right direction. Strange is quite sweet and a bit sad. Not angry as much as loving, plaintive and regretful (one of the lyrics I can make out it "please stay"). This is growing on me. It feels almost like a happy Northern Lad, with warmer guitars and bass. Add a bit of Lust to that, and you're getting close. But that's a dumb description, so forget I said it. Like most of the others, quite a lush sound filled with guitar, bass and percussion, but the piano is there. Carbon is not so much Blood Roses driven as Black-Dove (January) driven. And that's great by me!!!! Even if all we ever got was the 30 second clip, it would still be a wonderful song. I Can't See New York is like the love child of Raining Blood and Gold Dust. The clip is pretty much Tori and the piano. And Wednesday you just have to hear. I caught a mention of it on our ABC as I walked through the entry of my apartment complex. That's all I know. My local newspaper (San Jose Mercury News, with a circulation of a couple of million) had it as one of the stories on the cover, above the fold but no picture and below a story about the San Francisco Giants in the running for the baseball World Series. There was a bit more inside, for a grand total of about a page of coverage. For the sake of comparison, the paper devoted more than six pages to the US economic downturn and how it has affected Silicon Valley. /nm [1] For news, I follow washingtonpost.com, nytimes.com, news.bbc.co.uk, and smh.com.au. If I really want to see a television, I go to my office. My lab has televisions tuned to CNN Headline News [a] by every elevator, and a few big screen televisions in various conference rooms across campus. [a] There are multiple CNNs in the US. There's the original CNN (news for dummies), CNN Headline News (essentially a one-hour loop of the supposedly important stuff, or CNN for dummies), CNN Airport News (Headline News for dummies), cnn.com (Airport News for dummies), and a pay service on cnn.com wherein you can watch their video feeds unedited (unedited cnn.com for anal-retentive dummies). ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Oct 2002 19:55:47 -0700 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: [oztori] Get ya reading glasses out! Tori has sold 7 000 000 albums (approx), of which 250 000 albums (approx) were sold in Australia. That means that 3.57 per cent of Tori albums were sold in Australia (approx). Now, Australia's population is about 19 000 000. The US is currently just under 290 000 000. Europe is a shade over 380 000 000. If we were to combine these populations, then Australians would account for approximately 2.90 per cent of that aggregate. So, while Australia only represents 2.90 per cent of the market, it generates 3.57 per cent of the sales. Thus, Australia has higher per capita Tori sales that the US and European markets combined. Therefore, Tori is, statistically speaking, more popular here than she is in Europe and the US combined. Since an artist should perform where they are most popular, Tori should therefore perform in Australia and bar the other places. Well J-Lo and David Beckham *are* more important :P But nah, what really annoys me about these things is that, eg. on the front page of today's local paper, they have "Cats (the local football team) close to tragedy" as in.. "OMG! Never mind the ordinary civillians, some FOOTBALLERS actually may have been killed in the blast!" That *really* shits me about Austraaaaaayans. On a related (kinda) note: NEVER buy Dick Smiths jelly! It are SO shit! It is so cheap n' nasty. So much for "true blue" and "buy Austraaaaaaaaaaayan". > b.. A 3 track promo for ASF, including 1. How said that the "Can't Get You Out of My Head" single nearly out-sold all of Tori's releases combined in Australia.
