Well, I didn't know BFP was out here until the Wednesday of the week 'twas released (but guess this was my pre 'net days.. *gasp* I once lived without it ;). I wouldn't have even known Tori had made a new album probably if I didn't see CALS on Rage the weekend before. I'm more than willing to travel great distances for a concert - just ask my Dad, we flew to CA for that concert just for that weekend. I may not be able to quote you tori off the top of my head but just like to sit back and put one of her cd's on. I'm really looking forward to the new album, something new for my cd player - yay!!! It was a book of Kevin Aucoin's work - the make-up artist who did the make-up on SLG. I've seen some other pics of his work, where her 'creates' characters using actors/actresses as the 'models'. Anyway flipping through the book (he was quite an artist, you have to admit) I found Tori's two pictures that were a contribution to the book. I don't know if anyone has seen this book but. Tori was. WOW! According to the text by Kevin, they were two 'characters' that represent Tori's heritage. The first one, Tori made up and dressed as Mary, Queen of Scots. WOW - Fantastic - Tori is a shape-changer - most definitely. The second was also quite impressive as it was not the normal Tori. She was dress/made up as a made-up Cherokee? Indian woman. You're nothing if not a man of extreme tact, Nayth. But, while I wouldn't express it quite the way you did, I would generally agree that the SLG pics lacked something. They seemed a little too sterile and a little too posed for my liking. Somewhere between passport photos and glamour photography, which just didn't gel with the SLG concept. It's a Y Kant Tori Read one. That DJ should be shot. I'm guessing the Bjork CD will be her upcoming "Greatest Hits" which is supposedtabe released (well in the UK at least) on Oct 28th. Kinda pointless release, really imo. > Am d/l Sampler as I type - am looking forward to > hearing this one! So you mean they based their 'review' on just a third of the album? *gasp*.. and I thought all music journos actually listened to entire CD's... ;) > Given that Epic is faced with that, how much > promotion -can- they do? Well I thought the record company would have overriden any 'I don't want ppl listening to the album til it's ready' Tori shit. Although it can't have been Tori's idea to pull all these ASF singles from release and keep delaying SW's release date, can it? > The > new album has gotten a fair amount of ink already. > But it can't get more > ink without letting more people hear the album, and > more people can't hear > the album until Tori gets over this paranoia about > MP3s and the Internet. I think it's kinda silly - once the album is out, those mp3's are gonna be up 5 seconds later... So people who only intended to d/load the album and not buy an actual copy will still get the chance to do so once the album is out. Mm, I thought so too. Unless she's specifically had something written into her contract about her having control over dates to ensure internet piracy is minimised, I don't think it's likely that she'd have so many rights. It's just not like record companies. >I think it's kinda silly - once the album is out, >those mp3's are gonna be up 5 seconds later... So >people who only intended to d/load the album and not >buy an actual copy will still get the chance to do so >once the album is out. Maybe she's just scared after the atrocity that was her last album... I know I for one listened to it online and then refused to buy it til it came down to $10. ;-) Of course a better way to prevent such problems would be to NOT RELEASE SHIT, but mm... heh. ~Becc :) - -- www.crappism.org ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 19:30:11 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan "®" Subject: Re: [oztori] Buggering the CD stores Rebecca Appleton wrote: > I don't think > it's likely that > she'd have so many rights. Yeah, and spesh not Epic, which is through Sony... which is infamous for such record company battles such as George Michael, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, et al. > Maybe she's just scared after the atrocity that was > her last album... > I know I for one listened to it online and then > refused to buy it til > it came down to $10. ;-) VERY smart move! I had heard most of it on-line, but I think was still in 'denial' that it wasn't up to par. > Of course a better way to > prevent such > problems would be to NOT RELEASE SHIT, but mm... > heh. I dunno. >Although it can't have been Tori's idea to pull all >these ASF singles from release and keep delaying SW's >release date, can it? No clue. I wouldn't really say that they've 'kept delaying' it, though. She said September at the beginning of this year, but that was quite preliminary. Realistically, she was pulling a date out of her arse. It did have a couple of different dates in October, but that's not that out of the ordinary. >I think it's kinda silly - once the album is out, >those mp3's are gonna be up 5 seconds later... It's a pointless exercise that could hurt her more than help her. The more ink an album gets, the more chance it has of selling. I'm wondering if Epic is letting her get away with this so they can hype it later as a 'sleeper hit' or some bullshit like that. It does look like she's going to do a fair amount of media coverage for the album as she travels the US on tour. *shrug* I dunno. I don't claim to understand how the music business works at all, let alone how the hell it works wrt Tori. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 20:07:04 -0700 (PDT) From: Nathan "®" Subject: Re: [oztori] Buggering the CD stores Nadyne Mielke wrote: > No clue. Mmmmmm but 'they' said Sept 24th (US) was going to be the release date up until about 2 months or so ago? > I think it's beyond silly. It's a pointless > exercise that could hurt her > more than help her. The more ink an album gets, the > more chance it has of > selling. I think the lack of single release may impact on the album's sales too - well in the UK at least, where she's not had a pre-album single since Spark (and a single at all since GOT80s), and TVAB & SLG had low debuts (TVAB #22, SLG #16) & quick plummets down the chart (TVAB #22-46; SLG #16-57). And she used to have #1 and #2 debuts (with UTP & BFP respectively) - but admittedly that was pre the days when Tori thought the world revolved around the US. > I'm wondering if Epic is letting her get away with > this so they can hype it > later as a 'sleeper hit' or some bullshit like that. ??? interesting strategy if that was tried. But 'realistically', SW is probably going to sink like a stone after its debut. Tori ain't the kinda artiste (LE excepted) whose albums slowly creep up to their peak position following a successful 3rd or 4th single release. Was that the 'asian' guy? He was a rude little prick yesterday. I forgot to show my discount card - and remembered JUST as he scanned the item. So I said Oh! I've got my card and he audible sighed and went... we can't do that... and I immediately said (not putting up with any laziness after that twat in "The Music Store" or what ever that place was - said ... "Yes you can!" - he knew he could... he goes "but I have to do a return form" I stood there waiting. Then while he's writing the thing he goes "OH you DON'T have to be RUDE about it". (Which I wasn't - but I wasn't going to put up with moronic lazy-arses. I just said "Hey, It's happened before - Chermside - were more than happy to fix it up." He wen't on about them being more strict in the city store - cause of audits all some SHITE. I just said the time codes would be like a minute apart - so it would be clearly obvious what had happened. I couldn't be bothered with an argument so I said "oh yeah - sorry - I understand that the city store can get busy etc. etc." but I really shouldn't have. Arsehole. He was bit better after that - King of their own little castles. Fuck that pisses you off - you are still giving them fucking money. It's like when you go to like Subway, and ask for something like "extra capsicum" and they sigh and carry on... you just want to yell "just move your FUCKING arm you lazy fuckwit!!" Gah! Oh well. What a little turd that guy was. Some are really nice at that HMV - and can't help you enough - then you get little Napoleons like that guy. Why don't they just fuck off!?!
