Subject: [oztori] De-lurker de-posting Hi everyone, I'm de-lurking just for a wee while... I've been incredibly homesick this year, still living and working in Tokyo, and today I thought I'd make a quick (ish) post. I'm especially more homesick knowing that there is a Tori listening party for SW in Melbourne. I have no idea what it'd be like, or if it's worth going to. I think they'll only play songs from that promo CD that's been floating around. Probably not even that many! But, there was mention of a few other decent artists being played too. If any of you guys go, please let me know how it all went! I'm very curious about it! I have been making frequent visits to the legendary Dent, promising myself NOT to take a sneak peak at the cover of SW. In the past, Mike Why has put up links to view the covers of previous albums. However, this time there is no link, it's just THERE. Doh! I was a bit peeved, but I'm over it. Having said all that, has anyone on the list NOT seen the cover and/or NOT heard ASF?@I haven't heard ASF, but I'd kinda like to...you know, just for a taste! I am full of anticipation with this album, but I'm scared it's gonna turn out to be too commercial or something. I had this weird dream that I heard ASF, and it was really lame. Some synth, and crappy drum beats...anyway! I've got good feelings about this album...anyone else? I'm really hoping for lots of piano -I miss the piano. It got drowned out in B&C and the part in Happiness Is A Warm Gun still haunts me. I just LOVE it. More more! The 'something' that Tori refers to when talking about her Oz plans left me feeling a bit insulted. I thought it was kind of a back hand comment or something. I probably wouldn't have said anything if that was the only thing I could say. It doesn't make me feel any better at all! I don't want her to put herself out or anything... Wow -just think, in a few weeks we'll have 18 tracks to chat about! Well people, enjoy the buzz and if I have time I'll post again. I am a faithful digest reader, but this bloody internet cafe costs a bloody fortune... ta ta for now, Helen (formerly known as Spacedog Hel, for reasons I cannot remember!) Admittedly my jaw dropped when I read the orgasmic post, but after reading that little 's' word ('something'), I started getting sceptical. It could just be Torispeak, or it could mean that they're not planning much but are doing something to be visible down here. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was largely a promo tour, with perhaps one or two random, spontaneous small gigs or public appearances. But at least we now know not to expect anything before March. Hmm, a visit to the relatives in March/April could be in order... perhaps I should start requesting tickets to Rove Live now. Just a quick think about this. I don't think Tori will come to Brisbane due to a lack of suitable venues. No more Festy Hall. (No more medium size venue). Entertainment Centre is way too big. The Zoo - has a cool atmosphere but WAY WAY too small. but would be a fantastic venue for a small crowd. "Tori and Piano: a missed decade" :-) The only place that she'd probably play would again be the QPAC Concert Hall - and can I just say NOOOOOOOOOO. It's too stuffy. People will just sit in their chairs either crying or badly lip-synching the songs. There is no 'heart' in a concert like Tori's. It'll probably be half sold out by people who have no IDEA who Tori is, they'll probably think it's a classical pianist or something - and just buy a ticket cause they get a special deal being a member of the Performing Arts society or something. The first 17 rows will be bought out by rediculous business men as tickets to their mothers. *sigh* A Pub? Even most of them suck to no end anymore. There used to be a smallish pub at Wolloongabba a few years ago - but I don't think it's there anymore - wasn't it called the Capitol or something - I remember I went with some friends to see Tanya Donnelly. GREAT show. I was two meters from her. (EVERYONE was two meters from her). Brisbane Powerhouse. I don't know - never been in there - but it's not really a musical venue is it? It's more of an arts/plays type venue? The State Theatre in Sydney (currently host to Cabaret) was when Tori performed in 1994 ... and that was great for girl and piano. What size crowds would Tori pull here anyway?? Jules PS - I was actually thinking of Elvis Costello when I suggested the Sydney/Melbourne thing. He managed 5 sold out shows between the two cities, and I've always imagined him as having a smaller (if no less loyal) fanbase than Tori. But I could be wrong -- I've been more successful converting people to EC than to Tori. PPS - where did BrisVegas come from, anyway?
